Project - Standard sheet validation Project No. - NA
SWV-CS-EXL-006
Type of Calculation - Design of Anchor bolts and Base plate Department - JEC CSA

Assumptions

### Column, Base plate, Anchor bolts, Shear key & pedestal are concentric with respect to geometry.

### Anchor bolt layout is assumed as symmetric about both the axes.

### Stress variation in concrete at base plate level is linear according to working stress method.

### Anchor bolt design is based on working stress method.

### Limit state and ductility design shall be done separately.

Features

### This spread sheet covers design of following:

a) Column - Base plate and stiffeners weld connection

b) Base plate - without / with stiffener
c) Anchor bolts
d) Shear key & its weld connection with Base plate

### Properties of ISMC & ISMB are taken from IS 808 : 1989.

### Properties of UB & UC are taken from British Steel Manual - Structural Sections to
BS4:Part1 and BS4848:Part4.

### This spread sheet covers following load combinations for design.

a) Axial Compression.
b) Axial Compression + bending.
c) Axial Tension.
d) Axial Tension + bending.

### For ISMC, ISMB, UB & UC sections properties are covered in the spread sheet only & no separate
manual entry is required. For other sections user has to enter property values manually.

### Anchor bolt properties like tension capacity, shear capacity, required edge distance are covered
in the spread sheet only.

### For design of base plate with stiffeners coefficient & formula are used as per Roark's table and
the same is incorporated in the spread sheet only.

### Grout type G1 & G2 and concrete grades are taken from 25194-3PS-SC-001.

### Base plate thickness is taken as per 25194-3PS-CA-004.

10 Anchor bolt details are taken as per 22960-C53-JG000-003.

Limitations

Following are the limitations.

### This spread sheet covers maximum 5 rows & 5 columns of anchor bolts.

### Torsion in column base is not considered in stress check for column - base plate weld connection.

General Notes

### cell indicates mandatory fields for entry.

### cell indicates user entry to override spread sheet calculations.

### For design of Base plate without stiffener & with stiffener two separate sheets are used. For
economical iterations it should be properly used.

### As this spread sheet covers fillet & butt both the weld connections, shear key design for channel,
I sections and pipe sections and design of various stiffeners kindly take print-out of required
checks only to avoid unnecessary printing & wastage of papers.
