IDEAL RANKINE CYCLE

INTRODUCTION

The discussion of the Ideal Rankine Cycle shall involve all the BASIC parts of a steam power plant
employing the said cycle. The discussion will start with the processes involved in the cycle. After the
familiarization of the processes, we shall discuss the individual parts of the power plant such as the boiler,
Rankine/steam engine, condenser, and pump.

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of this MODULE, YOU can:

1. State the different parts of the RANKINE CYCLE.

2. Be familiar with the calculations involved in the RANKINE CYCLE.
3. Be adept at using the STEAM TABLES and different charts related to the properties of STEAM.
4. Solve problems related to the RANKINE CYCLE.
5. Be prepared for more comprehensive problems related to thermodynamics.

TOPIC OUTLINE:

I. Ideal Rankine Cycle

II. Layout, TS and PV Diagrams
III. Rankine Cycle Processes
IV. Rankine Cycle Analysis
V. Ideal Rankine Engine
VI. Engine Analysis
