Scott Lee Shumate, 75,
of Lebanon, died Friday,
Dec. 2, 2022, in Lebanon.
He was born Aug. 25,
1947, in Sioux City, Iowa
to Floyd Russell and
Dorothy Helen Weaver
Shumate.
On Jan. 15, 1977, he
married Patricia Joan
Dill.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; his
wife Patricia on Aug. 12,
2021; and a brother, Mark

Scott grew up in Mov-
ille, Iowa, graduating from Woodbury Central High
School in 1965 and then attended Iowa State Univer-
sity. After graduating with a chemical engineering
degree, he moved to San Francisco and began working
for Bechtel Corporation, a global engineering and
construction management company. For 15 years,
his work with Bechtel took him around the world to
locations such as Korea, England, Abu Dhabi, Jakarta,
and throughout North America.
While traveling across the Midwest between job
sites in the early 1980s, Scott fell in love with the
Ozarks and started making plans to raise his family
in this community. In the mid-1980s, he left the world
of construction engineering and began a rewarding
career with the City of Lebanon, serving first as the

She spent the majority

Middle School. She was incredibly crafty. She enjoyed
listening to music, completing puzzles and dancing.
Time spent with her family is what she treasured most.
ALVA EUGENE FOOTE
LAQUEY, MISSOURI
Alva Eugene Foote, 82, of Laquey, died Tuesday,
Dec. 6, 2022, in his home.
He is survived by four children, Cecil Foote (Janis)
of Lebanon; Ed Foote (Stacey) of Laquey; Annette
Farias of Laquey, and Charlene Foote of Laquey;
seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren;
one sister, Evelyn Davis of Richland; several other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec.
9, 2022, in the Memorial Chapel of Richland. Burial
City Engineer, later as City Administrator, and retiring
as the Public Works Director in 2008.
He was a longtime member of the First United
Methodist Church. Scott had a servant’s heart; he
made serving his church and community a priority
over the years. Scott taught junior high Sunday School,
contributed to several committees, led the finance
team, and organized many local service projects.
Scott and Pat also traveled with the United Methodist
NOMADS program.
He is survived by three daughters, Sara Johnson
and her husband Justin of Lebanon; Carol Shumate
of San Francisco, Calif. and Mary Russell and her
husband Jason, of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Grace
and Ella Johnson and Drew and Spencer Russell.
A Celebration of Life for Scott Lee Shumate will
be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, at First United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Voight officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in Lebanon Cemetery.
His body has been cremated under the direction of
Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon. Visitation will
begin at 9:30 a.m., prior to services at 11 a.m. also at
First United Methodist Church.
Memorials in memory of Scott have been suggested
to Lebanon Area Founda-

Heather was saved and baptized as a young girl
and attended First Freewill Baptist Church in her
younger years.
She is survived by one son, Jaid Waterman (Ashley)
of Lebanon; two daughters, Madysen Feeney (Luke)
of Grovespring, and Kailey Harris (Alan Shivers) of
Lebanon; her mother, Judy Waterman of Lebanon; one
brother, Brad Waterman (Emily) of Fair Grove; three
grandchildren, Ayden Waterman, Paislee Mayes and
Ellie Feeney; several aunts, uncles and cousins; other
relatives and many friends.
There is no service planned at this time for Heather
Denise Waterman. Her body is to be cremated under
the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.

SETH EDWARD DROPE
FAIR GROVE, MISSOURI
Seth Edward Drope, the only child born to the mar-
riage of Edward Drope and Beverly Lynn Blanton (May-
field), was born October 22, 2005, in Columbia, Missouri.
He fell asleep in death on Sunday, December 4, 2022, from
injuries received in an automobile accident at the age of
seventeen years, one month and nineteen days.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents,
Herbert “Bert” and Barbara (McPherson) Blanton, and
Marianne (See) Eldridge.
Seth is survived by his mother, Beverly Mayfield,
and her husband, Duane, of Fair Grove, Missouri, his
father, Edward Drope, and his wife, Amanda, of Potosi,
Missouri; his grandfather, Darwin “Eddy” Eldridge; his
grandparents, Jack and Phyllis Mayfield; nine siblings,
Stephanie Wilbur, Christopher Drope, Brandon Eldridge,
Mindy (Drope) Johnson, Ethan McKay, Lori (McKay)
Thoren, Renee (Mayfield) Wilson, Kyle Mayfield, and
Savanna McNeely; several nieces, nephews, cousins,
aunts, uncles and greats; as well as a host of other rela-
tives and friends.
Seth was raised in both Crystal Springs, Mississippi
and in the Lebanon, Missouri area, where he attended
Lebanon R-III school. He had recently been homeschool-
ing in Fair Grove, Missouri.
He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses
all his life, and was studying the Bible with his mom.
Seth was well-known for being very hard working,
some saying he “worked as hard as any man.” He enjoyed
working on vehicles with his dad and was his bonus
dad’s right-hand-man on multiple building and repair
projects, most recently building their shop and home.
He was happy to go out of his way to be helpful to
others. He enjoyed researching and working on cars
and trucks, particularly classics. He constantly spoke of
his plans for his future, and the desire for a simple life
where he would have time to spend with his future wife
and children.
He was known for giving generous bear-hugs to those
he loved and sharing silly jokes with them, always want-
ing to make people laugh and be happy.
His nieces and nephews especially loved him and the
attention he would give them, running down the hall and
playing any child game they wanted.
He also loved his pets, past and present. He would
pet and run with them. And planned on getting a Basset
Hound when he got his own place, because “they are
lazy.”
Seth was a very loving and affectionate son, grandson,
brother, and uncle. He was a caring and generous friend
to many. We celebrate his life and know that his family
and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories
he created with them during his short lifetime.
Funeral services for Seth Edward Drope will be held
at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at Holman-Howe Fu-
neral Home in Lebanon. Burial will be at Mount Rose
Memorial Park in Lebanon, under the direction of Hol-

LEBANON, MISSOURI
Janet Sue Tatman, 81, of Lebanon, died Sunday,
Dec. 4, 2022, in her home near Lebanon.
She was born July 25, 1941, in Lebanon, Mo. to
Ralph and Neva Snow Sutton.
On April 4, 1970, she was united in marriage to
Alvin Lecon Tatman, and to this union two daughters
were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband Alvin, on Dec. 10, 2009; and a great-grand-
daughter, June Herdman.
Janet was born and raised in the Lebanon area and
graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of
1959. After she and Alvin made their home in several
locations, mostly stateside, while Alvin served in the
JANET SUE TATMAN military. They made their home in Clarksville, Tenn.
for 40 years, and then retired to Lebanon. Janet was a
devoted homemaker. She professed to being a “soldier in God’s Army and prayed
for everyone. She loved her pets, especially cats, and liked caring for her plants.
Her life rotated around her family, pets and flowers.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Lynn King and her husband Greg and
Sara Herdman, all of Lebanon; four grandchildren, KateLynne, Luke, Heather, and
Blake; seven great-grandchildren, Miriam, Emet, Laila, Ari Goss, Nova, Samuel
and Ashlea Herdman; a sister, Sammye K. Cogdill of Lebanon; several nieces and
nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services and burial for Janet Sue Tatman will be held at 2 p.m. Friday,
Dec. 9, 2022, in McBride Cemetery under the care and
direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.

Lacey Ann Stadler, 32, of Hamilton, Mo. died Sun-
day, Nov. 20, 2022.
She was born Sept. 10, 1990, in Springfield, Mo.
On Jan. 10, 2020, she married Levi Benjamin. While
they made their home in Hamilton, they would often
travel around the United States working together and
visiting the natural wonders of our country.
She is survived by her husband, Levi, and all of the
children of their blended family: Kylee, Aiden, Zach-
ary, Kimberly, McKenna, and Moses; her mother, Kim
Owens, and stepfather, Darryl; sisters, Landry and
Julia; also a large extended family and many friends. 
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednes-

to new office location at civic center

Laclede County, will
be moving from its
current location in-
side the Lebanon Area
Chamber of Commerce
on North Adams to the
Cowan Civic Center on
East Elm Street at the
end of the year.

dented growth. In the
past ten years, LAF
assets have more than
doubled from $1.9 mil-
lion to $5.4 million.

each staff member, as
well as additional stor-
age.
“In a way, this move
is a homecoming for
LAF”, explained Fries.
The LAF office was lo-
cated inside the Cow-
