zavannen IRDUFTUAL STANDARD Polymer-modified bitumen roofing sheets 1 Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies polymer-modified bitumen roofing sheets used for waterproof construction of various structures (hereafter re- ferred to as “roofings’). In the case of roofing to be processed with using an tacky layer, it shall be at least 40 Niem or 70 % of lateral tensile strength of non-treated 4. (2) There shall be no tear, fold, wrinkle or through hole. (2) Heating thermostat The heating thermostat shall be the equipment in 4.2 ‘of JIS K 6267 or a similar ono to be adjustable by 42 °C to the awl temper ture. 6.52 Preconditioning of test piece The preconditioning uf test pi ‘a8 follows: hull be ()) Heat treatment Carry out the heat treatment in a heating thermostat con- trolled at (80 42) °C for 168 h. Place separate paper on a flat board locaced horizontally and then place the test pisces gently ou the paper. Place the frout aide downwards for exposed roofings. Place the test pleces after heating under ‘the standard conditions for approximately 4 h. 2) Alkali treatment Immerse the tout pivces into « saturated aqueous olution ‘of calcium bydreaide (guaranteed yeade specified in JIS K 9576) for 163 h xt ‘eempratsre (20 22) °C for alkali trantment. Safficiently wash the test pieces after immersion by seater, wipe them with dry cloth and allow them to stand sill under the standard conditions fer approximately 4h, 6.5.2. Preconditioning of test plece The precoudilioning uf test piece shall be 8 follows: (1) Heat treatment Carry out the heat trearment in a heating thermostat con: trolled at (80 12) °C for 168 h. Safficiontly wash the test pieces after immersion by sater, wipe them with dry cloth and allow them to stand ‘ull undar the ntandard conditions for approximataly 4b. 6.5.8 Test method Measure the widths of the test pieces at three paints to the nearest 0.1 mm and ebtain the mean value. Mount the test piece on the tensile tester so that the length between the clamps becomes 50) mm as illustrated in Fig. 4, and pull the test piece until it breaks at a tensile speed of 100 mm/min, and thon ubtin the maximum load. Heat resistance 6.7.1 Test equipment The test equipment shall be as follows : (2) Length measuring apparatus ‘The length measuring apparatus shall have accuracy of 1 mm oF better. (2) Heating thermostat The heating thermostat shall be as specified in 65.1 (2), 6.1.2 Test method As illustrated in Fig. 5, fix the upper end of test piece ao that it does not slip, and hang this assembly for 6 hin the heating thermostat controlled at (80 +2) °C. Take cut the test piece, measure the maximum length of sagging of covering layer and examine for the exiatence or nonexistence of dripping and foam- ing. Express the length of sagging by the maximum value on three test pieces. (2) Heating thermostat The heating thermostat shall he specified in 6.5.1 (2) (Wh Thermastatie water bath ‘The chermoscatie water bath ahall be capable of controlling the temperature at (60 71) £C, (Low temperature thermostatic air chamber The low temperature ther- mostatie air chamber shall be capable of controlling the tomperature at (-10 22°C. 6.82 Test mothod Allow the test picees to stand still horizontally in the heating thermostat controlled at (60 22) °C for 23h, take them out and expose to the standard conditions for 1h and then measure the length of the middle part obtain the referonce length of the test picee. The test shall be carried out according (0 the following procedures. Procens 1. Tramerse the test pieces into the thermostatic water bath controlled at (00 =1)‘C for 19 h, take them out and wipe the water adhered on ‘the surface. This operation is called wetting. Process 2. Next, stand the test pieces still in the low temperature thermostatic air chamber controlled at (-U0 42) *C for 5h. This opaention in ealled cooling, Process 3. Next, stand them stil horizontally in the heating thormastat con- trolled at (60 °2) *C for 24 h, This operation is ealled drying. Process 4. Repeat the above wotting. cooliny and drying operations 4 times. Process 5. Furthermore, carry out the fifth operation of wetting. cooling and drying. At the finishing time of each operation, stand the test pieces still under standard conditions for 1h, and measure the length of them. Calculate the change rate of each test piece according to the following formula. Express the dimensional change rate by the mean value which has the maximum absolute value in 5 test pieces at wetting, cooling and drying. Examine the appearance on the test pieces subjected to the repeti- tive test by checking for the existence or nonexistence of wrinkles, warp and separation of layers. If it is necessary to interrupt this test sequence, interrupt the test after the drying operation. he where, change rate (%) ‘measured length (mm) reference length (mm) 69 Joint strength 6.9.1 Test equipment The test equipment shall be the tensile tester specified in 65.1 (0), 6.9.2 Preparation method of test specimen As illustrated in Fig. 6, place the test piece (E-2) on the test piece (E-1) and joint them with both edges of roofing being laterally overlapped by 80 mm for class R and 10 mam for class N and allow the assembly to stand still under the standard conditions for 24 h for aging. However, ifthe joint is done by adhesive, the duration of aging shall be 168 h. In this procedure, carry out the joint and edge treatment of test piece (E-2) in accor dance with the method specified by the manufacturer. After completion of aging, as illustrated in Fig. 6, cut this assembly at right angle to the longitudinal direction so ‘that 5 test specimens of 50 mm width for class R or of 10 mm for class N are produced discarding both ends by 25 mm each. .93 Test method Measure the width of the test specimen at 3 points on the joint part to the nearest 0.1 mm and obtain the mean value. Mount the test specimen to the tensile tester so that the length between clamps becomes 100 mm, pull it at a tensile speed of 100 mm/min until it breaks, and obtain the maximum Toad. For class N, make the length between clamps 20'mm and the tensile speed 20 mm/min. This equip ‘ment is contained in a thermostatic air chamber which can control its inside tem- perature within 22 °C from the set temperature. Note (*) When a tensile tester capable of being used repeatedly is utilized, ssuch a measure is necessary, that a guide which maintains the backing board for test specimen in a plane is provided and the clamp on load cell side is fixed. 6.11.2 Preparation method of test specimen The test specimen shall be pre- pared as follows : (2) Bucking board Cut the flexible board of 8 mm thick epecified in JIS A 6430 {nto a wizo of 120 mm width and 400 mm length, and make a cutting of about 6 mom deep on the rear surface of the sheet at the middle ia the lateral direction. (2) Preparation method Prepare the test specimen by pasting the test pieve on ‘he middle part of front surface of the backing board in accordance with the method specified by the manufacturer und aye it being placed horizontally un- er the standard conditions for 24 b. (2) Heating thermostat The heating thermontat shall be an speeiied in 6.5.1(2). 6.12.2 Heat treatment of test piece The heat treatment of test pieces shall be 1s specified in 6.8.2 (1). 6.12.3 Test method Place the bending device in which the supporting rollers of the diameter selected from Table 8 corresponding to the marked value of thickness ‘of roofing and the test pieces in the thermostatic chamber controlled at a prescribed ‘temperature in Table 2 for 30 min or more for aging.
