Guide Question:
In answering the guide question you must follow the sequence of the question to have a correct
answer
1. Where does the process of making protein occur? What do you call this process? (2
points)
2. What do you call the process of making protein? Where does it occur? (2 points)
3. Single transfer RNA (tRNA) molecule is capable of carrying and delivering amino acid to
the ribosome during protein synthesis. How many amino acids is carried by a single
transfer RNA? (1 point)
4. Codons are the sequence of three nucleotide bases in mRNA that code for a specific
amino acid. Anticodons are the sequence of three nucleotide bases in tRNA that
complement the codon in mRNA during protein synthesis. How many bases are in a
codon and in anti-codon (2 points)
5. During transcription, the genetic information stored in DNA is used to synthesize a
complementary RNA molecule on the other hand in translation, the information
encoded in the RNA molecule is used to synthesize a polypeptide chain, which will
ultimately fold into a functional protein. In what part of the cell does transcription and
translation occur? (2 points)
6. Where does the process of making protein occur? What do you call this process? (2
points)
7. What do you call the process of making protein? Where does it occur? (2 points)
8. RNA and DNA have different roles in our body. How these two nucleic acid different? (2
points)
INSTRUCTION
TRANSCRIPTION
1. RNA, Ribonucleic Acid is very similar to DNA. RNA normally exists as a single
strand (and not the double stranded double helix of DNA). It contains the same
bases, adenine, guanine and cytosine. However, there is no thymine found in
RNA, instead there is a similar compound called uracil.
2. Transcription is the process by which RNA is made from DNA. It occurs in the
nucleus. Label the box with the x in it near the nucleus with the word
TRANSCRIPTION and proceed to color the bases according to the key below.
Color the strand of DNA purple (D) and the strand of RNA light green (R). Color
the nuclear membrane (E) gray
