Reflecting on the Curriculum: Bounded

➢ Architectural Studio I
○ Sacred Space:
■ The Sacred Space project was the final project within my course and
actively reflected the changes I’ve made as a student within my program.
With this project, I actively allocated a lot more time within the
development of the concept as well as the output. I made cognizant
changes in the way I plan my time as well as made an effort to
strategically plan my final output throughout my design phases.
Throughout my second year, I placed an emphasis on solidifying my
design process and this project was the first case study in actually applying
this reformed process. This artifact is a reflection of my cognizant changes
in attitude, time allocation, and goal-making which is accurately reflected
within my final composition, iterative notes, and attention to detail.

○ Crafting:
■ The Crafting project was the first project within this course and it was the
first project that really stretched my mind to think more abstractly about
design. Concerning my outputs within my foundation studio, I took a more
objective approach in making stylistic approaches. However, this project
swayed me to observe precedent, start making more iterative sketches, and
start thinking more intentionally with my design choices. Relative to my
other projects within this course, this certain project ignited what would be
the bones to my design process, a process I would actively work on
throughout this course and in the future.

➢ Architectural Studio II
○ East Nashville Residence:
■ This project was the first within this course and it revealed many faults
within my design process. Although my last project went quite well within
my last studio, this project was critiqued more harshly and challenged
some of my elements within my “polished” design process. Although the
composition and the creative product was to par with my colleagues, some
of my design choices were questioned and challenged by the judges. These
comments directly revealed some of my faults that I had within my design

process and fueled what would be a more successful second project.

Although I am satisfied with my electronic output of the final
composition, this project was a major learning curve in addressing some of
my faults within my design process and ignited a drive for a more refined
second project.

○ Side Elevation Project:

■ This second project came after the above project and was a wonderful case
study into my alterations I had within my design process. Within this
project, I actively made many, upon many, iterations and decided to waive
my reliance in computer-aided software. My designs grew fluid, lines
were more intentional, and overall I had a much more enjoyable
experience in creating my final output. I strengthened my technical
drafting skills as well as my drawing skills and created a project that fully
encompassed this new approach in design-making. I would definitely call
this project a launchpad into a new way in thinking about tackling my
future projects. Additionally, I have a lot of scanned-in sketches that
greatly portray my attention towards iteration and creativity that
accurately reflects this new “looser” way of design development.

➢ Programming I
○ Various Projects:
■ Although I’ve really delved into a plethora of various projects rather than
just a couple, my multiple outputs within this course portrays a difference
in thinking and an opening towards a new way in tackling my designs
within my studio classes. This course significantly challenged me in the
way of placing a more analytical way of thinking towards the action of
problem solving. There are standards which must be followed and
creativity remains pretty limited. However, this approach has helped me
think a little more analytically on certain studio projects. For instance,
there are certain codified measures which can influence a design, found
largely within the action of site analysis, that analytical approaches can
help bring to light. This course is a prime example of this new way of
thinking and fosters a vast range of opportunities towards developing my
design processes.
