FACILITATING LEARNING SESSION

SCRIPT:
Pre-training
(Talking to self with checklist on hand) Training Facilities, Workstations,
Equipment and Materials are set and ready. I can now start with the training.
Good morning Trainees! Welcome to Dipolog School of Fisheries, a TESDA
accredited training center.
By the way, I am Jean D. Maravillas and I will be your facilitator/ trainer for
Bread and Pastry production NC III.
Before we start, let’s pray.
Let us check the attendance. Please say ‘present’ if you’re here. (call out
name) please sign the attendance sheet.
This training recognizes Prior Learning so that you won’t have to undergo the
same training again.
I have here the data gathering tools for trainees characteristics so this help
me determine your background, experiences and knowledge so that your training will
be personalized according to your needs.
I will give you 15 minutes to answer. Please read the instructions carefully.
Time’s up, please pass.
I also have here a self-assessment checklist, so this help me determine your
current competencies that is relevant with this qualification.
I will give you another 10 minutes to answer. Time’s up, please pass.
If everybody is set, let us start with the proper orientation for Competency
Based Training for BPP NC III.
Our training will be CBT Approach. What is CBT or Competency Based
Training? CBT is a training delivery approach that focuses on the competency
development of the learner as a result of the training, emphasizes most on what the
learner can actually do with what he already know, focuses on outcome rather than
the learning process within specified time and it is learner-centered.
We are also guided with 10 Principles of CBT (Explain further at least 3 principles)
1. Learning is based on curriculum developed from the competency standards.
Competency Standards is the written specification of the knowledge, skills
and values required for the performance of a job or a task and the corresponding
standard of performance required for these in the workplace. The CBC is derived
from CS.
2. Learning is competency-based or modular in structure.
Generally, one competency is one module but some competencies maybe
divided into training modules. Meaning you need to finish and accomplish a certain
module before you can proceed to the next module. And you have to complete all
the module for you to qualify this particular qualification
3. Training is individualized and self-paced.
Learning is done by the learner at his own pace. So the learner is responsible
for his own learning.
4. Learning is based on work that must be performed.
5. Training materials are directly related to the competency standards and the
curriculum.
6. Assessment of learners is based in the collection of evidences of work
performance based on industry or organizational required standards.
7. Training is based on and off the job components.
8. The system allows Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
CBT focuses on the competencies that are not yet acquired by the trainee in
any learning situation like training, employment, and life experiences so as not to
waste your time doing the learning activities of the competencies you already have.
That is why before we started this training, you were assessed through data
gathering tools that would tell me of your characteristics and current competencies
so that the training will be structured according to your needs.
9. The system allows for learner to enter and exit programs at different times and
levels and to receive an award for competencies attained at any point.
10. Approved training programs are nationally accredited.

Comparative Analysis between Traditional Education and CBT

Role of Trainer
As a trainer, these are my roles.
Facilitator of learning rather than a provider of information.
Confidence booster – by providing experiences where the trainees can also
succeed.
Team member because I work with you rather than you, following my lead.
Actor that acts like a model for desirable work attitudes and task performance.
Role of Trainees
As a trainee, you also have your role…
In CBT we have the process to follow.
1. You can choose what competency you will do first
2. I have here the CBLM or Competency Based Learning Materials for your
guide in Bread and Pastry NC II. Every CBLM module covers one unit of
competency for you to read, understand and follow. You can read the
information sheet, then answer the self-check. Compare your answer w/
the answer key. For your task follow the task sheet, job sheet and perform
the steps and procedure. Evaluate your performance using the
performance criteria checklist.
3. Observe the trainees and guide them
4. Provide feedback
5. Evaluate & record their performance. If satisfactory let them take the
Institutional assessment
6. Recommend and schedule for National Assessment. Exit program
7. If not satisfactory—go back to learning resource area…CBLM….
Qualification overview…
Bread and Pastry NCII consist of competencies that person must achieve to
be able to clean equipment, tools and utensils, prepare, portion and plate and
pastries, breads and other dessert to guest in hotels, motels, restaurants.
Competency-Based Learning Materials
Information Sheet-learning content are there wherein the trainee should read
Self-check – an immediate assessment of your understanding based on what
you have read in the information sheet
Answer Key-an immediate feedback on your answer sheet
Tj-performance test and performance criteria checklist to assess your
performance on Task and Job sheet
Methodologies
Evaluation and Monitoring Tools
MONITOR: Show the Achievement chart/Progress chart
What is the difference between Achievement and Progress Chart? When I
need to monitor your daily accomplishments like answering the Self-checks and
Performing the Tasks and Job Sheets, I will record it on the Achievement Chart BUT
to monitor your accomplishment in a certain Learning Outcome and Competencies, I
will record it on the Progress Chart. In other words, after accomplishing all the
activities in a particular Learning Outcome, that’s the time I will put a check mark on
the Progress Chart.
Any questions? If none, let’s take a break. Please come back after 15
minutes.

Is everyone already here? Yes. Okay. Since we are already done with the
orientation, we will have a pre-test. Are you ready for the pre-test? This a 40-item
test, don’t worry. This will only help me determine your current competencies and
knowledge so that the training will be personalized according to your needs. I will
give you 40 minutes to answer, please read the instructions carefully. You may start
now. Are you done? Please pass your paper. Thank you. I will let you know of the
results tomorrow.

Now, prepare your notebook and pens, I will take you to the different area of
our workshop. Let’s have a shop tour!

for you to learn appropriate IT competencies like
word, excel and the likes. If you want to learn more
about computers, just make use of our computer
laboratory

take at home. This area enables learning even
outside and away from the training institution.

curriculum exemplars. This is also the area where
the trainer developed training materials.
6. QUALITY CONTROL
- This is where the outputs of the whole training are
tested if the standards or requirements are met.
7. INSTITUTIONAL ASSESSMENT AREA
- This area is found proximate to the Practical work
area because this is where assessment is done and

by the trainer.

skills and knowledge they need for particular qualification.
