In Visual Graphic Design NCIII, How can we learn and acquire all the competencies, any idea?
Through training! Very good. So what kind of training? Do you have any idea?

Okay so we call this Competency Based Training o CBT.

So, what is Competency Based Training?

 Proper orientation in CBT (Proceed to the power point)

CBT – in other words, this is for mastery of skills, knowledge and attitude. In every competency there
are skills and knowledge that you will need to acquire and attitude that you will need to develop in
order to pass this qualification

In CBT there are 10 principles that you will need to know. So ano kaya ang mga principles na ito…
1. The training is based on curriculum developed from the competency standards. So our
training is based on the curriculum of VGDNCIII that had been developed from the
competency standard.
2. Learning is modular in its structure. You’ll learn here through modules, in here, you have to
finish or accomplish the first module given to you before you proceed to another module. And
you have to finish all the module before you can be qualified for this Qualification.
3. Training delivery is individualized and self-paced. So that’s why I have gathered you current
competencies through the self-assessment checklist so that training will be personalize
according to your needs. And it is self-paced so meaning you’re the one that is responsible for
your own learning.
4. Training is based on work that must be performed. So our training is based on the industry
standard. Meaning your trainings here are actually done in the industry
5. Training materials are directly related to the competency standards and the curriculum
modules. So meaning, All the materials that we are going to use for the training will be based
on the competency standard and curriculum modules.
6. Assessment is based on the collection of evidence of the performance of work to the industry
required standard. Your performance of work must meet the industry standard.
7. Training is based both on and off-the-job components. You must know what are the
competencies that you need to learn and acquire.
8. Allows for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or current competencies. So that’ why I
collected your cuurent competencies or prior learning through the self-assessment checklist so
that your training will be personalize according to your needs.
9. Training allows for multiple entry and exit.
10. Approved training programs are Nationally Accredited.

 Roles of trainer and trainees

In our training center,there are two important persons here. Who are they? Well, if they are not
here we can’t call our training center a training center. Do you have any idea?

Trainer – the one who will train


Trainee – the one who will undergo training

So what are my roles…In my roles as your trainer.
1. Serves as a team member to determine what is to be learned. So, I’ll be the one who
will determine the knowledge and skills that you needed to learn.
2. Stimulates trainees’ motivation. I’m not only your trainer but also your motivator.
3. Manages learning. To see your learnings and skills ill record it to progress and
achievement chart.
4. Diagnose and solves learning problems. If you have problems about learning
something like you can’t understand a topic well. Then I’ll be the one to clarify it for
you.
5. Evaluates student achievement. In every competency I’ll be the one to assess your
learnings and decide if you already achieve it or not.
6. Assist learners to obtain individualized rewards.
7. Assist each trainee in designing a personalized plan of study. I’ll help you in
designing your plan of study.
8. Installs confidence.
9. Serves as a model for desirable work habits, attitudes and tasks performance in the
occupational field. So in here, I’ll serve as a role model
10. Spends more time interacting with students on a 1:1 or small group basis.
11. Helps those students who really need help. As your trainer I’ll help those trainees
who needed help in various aspect of learning and training.
12. Accepts responsibility along with the student for the tasks learned or not learned.

So that are my roles.

So for trainees, there are your roles…


1. Select what they want to learn and when they want to learn it – You’ll be the one to
select what competency do you want to learn first before you proceed to other
competency.
2. Learn at their own rate within program guidelines. You are going to learn at your own
paced based on the program guideline
3. Request to receive credit for what they already know – If you a proof of evidence that
you have prior learning regarding this qualification, evidence like, certificate of
training, certificate of achievement, certificate of employment, certificate of
competency ,you can give to me a photocopy of your certificate to give credit on it.
4. Choose how they want to learn. as a trainee you can chose your own learning style in
learning all the competencies.
5. Responsible for what they learn and when they learn it. You’re responsible in your
own learning.
6. Decide when they are ready to perform – in assessing your knowledge and skills in a
particular competency, you will be the one to choose when to you want me to assess
you.
7. Help develop personalized prescription for learning
8. Compete against prescribe job st andards – your work performance must meet the
industry standard
9. Knows “up front”
10. Trainees evaluate their own progress -
11. Can move freely
12. They will be rated mainly on performance – okay that’s true, in CBT it is more on the
outcome of you performance.
13. Learn according to their interest, needs and abilities

 Sources of competencies

In Visual Graphic Design we have 3 sources of competencies, we have the Basic, Common and this
are the most important of all the…. Core Competencies. On these 3, we are going to focus in Core
Competencies which will be finish in 405 hours or 51 days.

In the Core Competencies, it has 7 competencies that you needed to acquire. We have
1. Develop design studies
2. Create vector graphics using a graphics application
3. Create raster graphics using a graphics application
4. Develop designs for print media
5. Develop designs for electronic media
6. Develop designs for product packaging
7. Design booth and product/window display

 CBLM
Okay in VGD NCIII there is reference that we can use to learn the competencies. so, what do we
call to this reference, do you have any idea?
So we call this CBLM or Competency Based Learning Materials. a CBLM is an instructional
material and it is like a book which we can use to learn the knowledge and skills in every
competency.

We have the progress chat and the achievement chart.

Achievement chart – this is where I’ll record all the learning activities that you already completed.

In progress chart – this is where I’ll record all the learning outcome that you have completed in every
competency.

So, what is the difference between the progress chart and achievement chart, they look the same.

So the difference is when every you achieve in a particular learning activity or to achieve in a
particular learning outcome. I’ll check it in your achievement chart.

However if you have acquired or accomplish a certain learning outcome, for that particular unit of
competency, I’ll check it here in our progress chart. That’s the diff, between achievement and
progress chart.

or other reference. So this is like a library.
 Contextual learning area –We will use this during lecture/discussion
 Training resource area – this is where you can see the materials we needed to use during the
training in VGD NCIII
 Computer laboratory area – this is where you can see our computers when you are going to use
editing programs and internet for research.
 Practical work area – this is where you will acquire the skills needed for the qualification.
 Institutional learning area – this is where your assessment will be done in every competency.

Steps/Procedure in Lay outing a tarpaulin using Adobe Photoshop


1. Open Photoshop
2. Set the size and format of your document window. (4X3 feets, Color mode:
CMYK, 72 for resulotion, background content: White)
3. Go to file and select image background.
4. Resize the image and click the shortcut for transform.
5. Insert text with the appropriate size, color and font.
6. Apply FX to text.
7. Add objects and images in accordance with your design.
Save it as JPEG or TIFF

1. In the usb flashdrive inserted in your computer, open the file named; tarpaulin. There you can
see the logo and pictures of products of a company.
2. Use the logo and pictures to make a tarpaulin using the procedures in layouting tarpaulin.
3. I’ll give you one hour to do the performance task. after one hour I’ll give you the feedback of
your work.
