TECHNICAL PRESENTATION OUTLINE TASK SHEET (10%)

Topic

A) Title of presentation

1. State the title and justify if it is a technical topic.


The title of my presentation is “At Google, a Place to Work and Play”. This
topic explains on the company’s work culture as well as how they manage their
employees and the efforts they take to ensure their employees’ well-being which is
related to Human Resource Management course in my field of study, business
management.

B) Audience

1. How did you determine the knowledge level of your audience?

I determined the knowledge level of audience through a survey using “Google


Form” and the survey consists of 6 simple questions related to my topic.

2. How did this information influence your presentation?

This information helps me to prepare and organize my presentation so that my


presentation is easier to be understand by the audience as most of them are not
familiar with my topic.

3. How do you plan to gain the audience’s attention?


My plan to gain the audience attention is by starting my presentation with a
short video of Google’s office. In addition, I will ask the audience a rhetorical
question alongside with the video.

C) Presentation

1. Introduction
 What is the purpose and importance of choosing this topic?
The purpose and importance of choosing this topic is to explain on how a
company’s work culture and the way they manage their employees can affects
their employees’ well-being.

 How is the topic relevant to the audience?


The topic is relevant to the audience because when searching for job in the
future it is crucial for them to find out about the company’s work culture and
practices beforehand to select the company that best suits them.

 What do you expect the audience to learn from the presentation?


I hope that the audience will understand on how a good work culture can
affects the company’s employees and make use of this knowledge when selecting
which company to join in the future.

 What is your thesis statement?


Google’s company culture that focuses on work-life balance and the positive
impacts on their employee.

 List the main points that will support your thesis statement.
My first point is Google’s work environment. Next, my second point is
Google’s people operation. My last point is communication in Google.

 How are you establishing credibility?


I will introduce myself as a 2nd year 1st semester business management student
and I have taken Human Resource Management course which is related to my
topic.

 Which organizational pattern are you using? Justify your choice.
Topical Pattern. This is because all my main points that support the thesis
statement are in the form of topics where one point is not more important than the
other.

- Known for making the workplace feel like more than just work.
- An adult playground rather than a workplace.
- Google's employee can find everything they need right in the workplace.
- Happier employees are more productive and creative.
Google’s people operation.
- Raw science and human resource management combined.

Communication in Google.
- Encourages all employees to share their voice.
- Lower-level employee can share their opinion without any pushback from
their direct manager.
- Communicate core values clearly.

 How do you ensure that there is coherent transition from one main point to the
next main point?
To ensure that there is coherent transition from one main point to the next
main point I will use conjunction such as therefore, moreover and similarly.
Besides, I will use transitional phrase such as “Now we will move on to the first
point”, “Let’s proceed to the second point” and “Next, my third point is”.

 Describe how you are going to summarize each main point.


I will state that I have explained the first point which is Google’s work
environment and I will proceed to the second point which is Google’s people
operation and I will continue with my third point which is communication in
Google.

3. Conclusion
 Describe how you are going to summarize the entire presentation.
I will restate my three main points to the audience which is Google’s work
environment, Google’s people operation and communication in Google

 Describe how you are going to reiterate the purpose and importance of the entire
presentation to relate it to audience. Use own words.
I will emphasise on how a good and positive work culture will affect the
employees and remind the audience to do research regarding the company’s work
culture when job hunting in the future.

- In the future do you think other companies will follow Google’s footstep to improve
their company culture?
- Will Google’s chill work environment make their employees feeling too laid back?
- Do you think Google’s work culture needs further improvement?

E) Practise session

1. How did you practise for your presentation? (e.g. where? When? With whom? How
many times?
I practised my speech alone in my room around 8 times and normally I will
practice at night or early morning.

2. Which area of the presentation needed improvement? (e.g Delivery, content)


The area of the presentation that needed improvements are my eye contact and
pronunciation.

Yes. I managed to stay within the time limit.
