ABRASIVE JET MACHINING

Objective:
To study the effect of carrier gas pressure on MRR in Abrasive Jet Machining (AJM).

Apparatus/Materials required:
Abrasive jet machine
Carrier gas
Abrasive jet
Nozzle

Theory:
This is a process of materials removal by impact of erosion through the action of a
concentrated, high velocity stream of grit abrasive entered in a high velocity gas stream. It differsS
from conventional series blasting process for its fineness of particle size and controllable
machining parameters

Equipments:-
It consists of;
1. Gas Supply Unit
4. Mixing Chamber
2. Filler
5. Nozzle Assembly Dust Collecting
3. Pressure Regulator 6.Chamber along with Holding Device

In the mixing chamber the abrasive are called to flow into gas stream. The mixng 1a
generally by vibration. The particle and the gas mixture curves out of the nozzle present inside
the machining chamber of the
tool unit. The motion can be given to the nozzle on to the work
holding.

Material Removal Rate (MRR):

Material is removed from the work piece due to impact erosion of high velocity particles.
Kinetic energy of the particle utilized to cause micro indentation in work material & material is a
measured.

Experimental Procedure
Glass plate is fixed with the help of fixing attachment over the bed and than the glass plate are
mounted under the jet. The machining was done keeping the velocity and flow rate of abrasive
constant and varying the carrier gas pressure. The machining was done for a specific time period.
After machining the final weight of the plates is measured and the MRR is estimated.
