COURSE TITLE: ADVANCED LANDSCAPE DESIGN II

COURSE CODE: ARC 816

LEVEL: M.Sc 1

JULY,2017.

1
INTRODUCTION

Landscape Architecture, the science and art of modifying land areas by

organizing natural, cultivated, or constructed elements according to a
comprehensive, aesthetic plan. These elements include topographical features
such as hills, valleys, rivers, and ponds; growing things such as trees, shrubbery,
grass, and flowers; and constructions such as buildings, terraces, roads, bridges,
fountains, and statuary. No unalterable rules exist in landscape architecture
because each plot of ground offers unique problems caused by variation in
contour, climate, and surrounding areas.
Project Brief
I have been commissioned and my lecturer Arc. B.O. Agoha to study the present
architecture department, environmental management area and its surroundings,
and to further propose a better landscape design to help improve its present
physical look as well as creating a more convenient and enabling environment for
the ease of flow and comfort to end users.
Scope of Work
To critically study the surrounding and environmental features of the present
architecture department, environmental management building and the new
engineering complex and proffer a suitable solution through my landscape design
based on the following parameter’s;
 the project brief
 Existing site features
 What the site needs
 Propose a new landscape layout design.
Project Aim
To create it a better surrounding with a good aesthetic value for the buildings
considering the name it bears and represents, (Architecture Department,

2
Environmental Mangement Building And Engineering Complex) as well as
creating a more convenient environment for the various site activities in a natural
setting. In addition to that, is to cause people to appreciate the importance and
relevance of the buildings in environmental conservation through proper
landscape designs, and its environmental embellishments.
Project Objectives
To produce a serene environment within the buildings to produce or create more
convenient parking lots for vehicles ensuring and promoting the safety and
comfort of the end-users using desired plant types, by using the various landscape
plants. Also, to help control movement using plants
Project Location

This project is located at chukwuemeka odumegwu ojukwu university

campus uli, in the selected departmental buildings within the universities
premises which are; Architecture Department, and Engineering
Complex.
