Current Status of Sports Facilities in DLSU-Dasmariñas as Perceived by Student Athletes

According to Shanlini (2021) giving more attention to sports facilities increases students'

participation rate in class and serves a much broader community. Developing a sports facility

within the school boundaries and maintaining it targets a specialist area of many students who

can showcase their talents through this medium. At present, sports activities are valued as

much as academic activities because choosing sports as a career can now help you flourish, and

there are a large number of fields full of opportunities for true sports talents. Sports activities

make a student's body healthy and nurture their management and leadership skills. Along with

academics, every student needs to get into any sports activity of their choice as it will help

them learn discipline in life and make them feel motivated. To engage its students in physical

activities, all schools, irrespective of their size and exposure, should organize events according

to their capabilities. Sports show us how to be disciplined in life and maintain balance by being

in control. It gives us insights into how to manage time and all activities in life. Therefore, sports

play a huge role in students' mental growth by keeping the brain's activities sharp.

Overall, sports play a vital role in the development of students, both mentally and physically.

Therefore, all schools should make an effort to provide opportunities for their students to get

involved in sports.

With the growing demand and the importance of healthy lifestyles, many public sports facilities

have been constructed over the last two decades in an effort to improve residents’ health and

welfare and overall quality of life. Therefore, there have been significant efforts to continue to
improve the image of leisure sports and pursue the amelioration of service quality of public

sports facilities. However, it has been consistently found that the quality of service provided by

many public leisure sports facilities still fail to meet citizens ‘needs (Kang, Kim, & Lee, 2018; Lee

& Shin, 2018). Some studies reported that many public sports facilities operated by national or

local government are mismanaged due to the lack of specialized user-centered operations

management. Therefore, many public sports facilities have the low level of participation due to

their failure to provide good quality service.

It is clear that the quality of service in many public sports facilities is still poor. However, there

are steps that can be taken in order to improve the situation. By introducing specialized user-

centered operations management, training staff properly, and investing in better facilities, it is

possible to improve the quality of service in public sports facilities.

Sports are outdoor or indoor games, competition, activities needing physical effort and

Skill and usually carried out according to rules. Sports can also be defined as physical activities.

Governed by rules and played by individuals seeking to outperform opponents. Sports

are perceived as organised spontaneous exercises or games or as a competitive or non-

competitive process through which an individual obtains physical skills, mental relaxation and

bodily fitness (Fatai, 2018). Sports give people enjoyment, happiness, friendship, satisfaction,

health, fitness, popularity, recognition, the feeling of victory and success but on the other hand,

it may be boring, cause sadness, sorrow, disappointment, fatigue, exhaustion, injuries, illness

and in rare cases death. Ademola (2019) Many young athletes at secondary schools stop

participating in sports because of the factors such as failure to gain self-esteem and self-
confidence, burnout, not getting an opportunity to play, poor organisation and management

skills at schools, inadequate sport facilities, conflict between sports and school work etc. (Gould

& Petlichkoff, 2018).

It is expedient to say that sports facilities is now a cogent factor that influence the choice

of adolescents to participate in sporting activities. In conclusion, sports are a great way to stay

physically active and can have many positive benefits. However, there are also some risks

associated with playing sports. It is important to be aware of these risks and take steps to

minimise them.

Recent studies have found that the Covid-19 pandemic has led consumers to visit sports

facilities such as fitness centers, futsal courts, and badminton courts in order to reduce their

risk of infection in public areas (Norashikin et al., 2021). However, Le (2017) argues that the

quality of service at these facilities will have an effect on customer loyalty. Therefore, it is

essential to develop academic programs that will help trainees working in such institutions

improve their knowledge and skills through in-service training (Günel & Duyan, 2020).

Additionally, it is high time for sports facility services to strive to improve service quality in

order to maintain optimal customer satisfaction. Consumers are not hesitating to utilize

pandemic-related services (Castillo-Rodriguez et al., 2019). Management and staff must

continually strive to improve their knowledge and skills in order to meet the government's

service demand and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to increased visits to sports facilities. In order to maintain

customer loyalty, it is essential to develop academic programs that train employees in the
sports and fitness industry. Additionally, management and staff must continually strive to

improve their knowledge and skills in order to provide the quality of service that consumers

demand.

This is according to Ohio (2019), where the role of fitness in student life is being researched

more in-depth, and recently, more results have begun to surface. With these new findings,

schools are rapidly respond to the plead for better recreation centers. By investing in these

areas, schools are seeing a return in different ways, such as increased retention and improved

academic performance. In the United States, many educational institutions have realized how

important sports and recreation are to their programs. They've put significant effort into

investing in facilities, equipment, and personnel to help students achieve their wellness goals.

With students becoming more conscientious of their health and fitness, schools are trying to

cater to these needs by providing upgraded facilities for popular sports, a greater selection of

classes for male and female students, more support for female teams, extended gym hours, a

variety of schedules, and more.
