Dear Sir/Ma’am,

I am a student of SY-BBA (School of Commerce)- Navi Mumbai campus. We just had our re-exams result
out and there are so many students from Bba, Bsc finance, Bcom hons (Fy, Sy, Ty) who have failed this
semester at Navi Mumbai campus. Especially Sy-Bba Sem-3 had a very high failure rate.
This is very concerning as its not just a failure of students. It also shows that maybe students are not able
to understand the concepts that are being taught in class. We can't even join tuitions back to our city
because then college also has a mandatory 80% attendance. So even if we attend lectures it makes no
sense it's just for attendance. Also in our campus we are facing a lot of issues with faculty. Many of them
are visiting faculty and most of them are just not NMIMS level. The syllabus is of very high standard and
same in all campus with centralized examination. But then the college must also ensure that there's that
level of faculty in every campus that can deliver it to the students. Even the examination timetable is so
exhaustive where students have to give back to back exams without any break. We should get atleast a day
off between 2 examinations to study. Also there’s Intercampus checking of papers which makes no sense in
few practical papers such as OR and FSA where every professor has its own way of teaching and doing a
particular sum. Different methods may give same answers but then students lose marks on step-marking (if
final answer is wrong) because the method mentioned in the synoptic is different. It’s a disadvantage to
students of campuses other than Mumbai.
These grievances are not just out now that I have failed. Every student (passed or failed) from bba, bsc fin,
bcom hons (fy,sy,ty)- All have the same issue. Such a high failure rate does not mean that students aren’t
studying or working hard. Its just that the syllabus is top level, no faculty to deliver it properly and constant
burden of ICAs (midterm, presentations, tests, assignments, submissions and what not). Then the paper
level is so high plus the checking is also so strict with no grace marks system. Students are being failed even
at 17,18. I feel there should be little leniency in checking when the papers are so difficult. And there should
be a scope of few grace marks at least. Upon that there's D system where students can't have more than 2
D in a year. Even students who passed are worried as many of them are on edge with 2 D already in Sem 3
so by chance if they get another D in this Sem they are gone too. Its so difficult to manage all of these
when the professors squeeze our marks like anything. Leave aside practical papers, even in theory papers
where we write so well and expect 40+ we end up just in 20s or max 30s. Its so sad that there's luck factor
that exist in checking - if 2 of us have written of similar level there are chances one scores 25 and one
scores 40. It just doesn't make sense.
All of these is just causing endless trauma to students. It is affecting their mental health. I completely
agree that the University has its standard and want to maintain that level but it no-where justifies the
stress that students have to go through. There must be some leniency somewhere. So many students are
being failed every semester casually as if it just doesn't mean anything to the university. When a student
fails, it destroys his 1 year completely which has a long term effect on his career and it leads to so much
stress but it's been treated so normal here. I have seen students fail a year for 3-4 marks. This is so heart
wrenching.
Failing a year has become so frequent here at NMIMS but it's very shocking for our parents, friends,
relatives, Job givers etc. They feel we are dumb or someone who hasn't worked hard but less do they know
about the situation here at the college. We are so squeezed on marks where everything is made so difficult
for us. With same hard work we would score 80+ easily in other colleges especially Mumbai University.
They even have At-kt system where atleast students don't lose on a year for a few marks.
Filtering Process. It is the trend which has been seen happening at nmims over the years. Every Sem a few
students are failed through strict checking and the batch is filtered by almost 50% by the time they reach
last semester. This is such a lethal and unfair process. Even the faculty agrees to this. The management
should be doing this filtering at NPAT level. Why to intake more students than needed and after admissions
keep filtering them every semester? Students take admission without knowing this system and then suffer
later. Don't you feel it would be better if they went to some low level college rather than failing a year after
coming here?

All of these grievances we have reported and complained so many times but no one cares here honestly.
We are just given a deaf ear. I really think college should look on some of these aspects, make changes and
be a little lenient with students. Its not that so many students failing are dumb; all of us have cleared Npat
to reach here. And many of us have failed for the first time in life after coming here and it maybe normal
for management here but it gives so much trauma to us as students when we have to give re-exams.
Because that's 2nd and last opportunity and if by chance if the paper is difficult and checking goes strict
there - OVER we have failed a year. This is so lethal.
Honestly, students aren’t really enjoying their time here. Even the students those who passed have passed
on borderline. They are also fed up of all the pressure that has been created on daily basis with ICAs and
then in exams. No one’s happy with this college environment that has been created. Many of them, at this
point just want to clear the course in 3 years and leave. Students are in regret as if they are trapped here
and this is not a good thing.
All students passed or failed are of the same opinion that college should be a little lenient with us. It’s not
that we aren't working hard but the college is making it so difficult for us to survive. Students who are in
Second Year can't even leave college at this point as its better to have a year back at NMIMS and lose a
year rather than going to another college and start again from first year where we would lose 2 years.
I request the university to be little lenient in revaluation and give students some relief this semester. Also
college should really consider At-Kt system for students failing in 1 or 2 subjects by a few marks. I genuinely
hope that the management will consider our grievances and act upon it before our revaluation results.

Sincerely,
