Introduction

The idea and purpose of the practical period I’m in right now is to know more about how to be
an employee and get experience from observing, watching, and giving the company a positive
outcome, as if I’m one of the employees working in Palestine Islamic Bank. Keep in mind that
this is a crucial period to gain practical experience and develop a deeper understanding of the
banking sector.

Background about the company:

Palestine Islamic Bank is one of the most popular banks in Palestine, the reason being that it
specializes in making the customer comfortable with working with the bank without worrying
about the sharing of profit and loss as well as the prohibition of the collection and payment of
interest by lenders and investors. The Palestine Islamic Bank has and still is getting a lot of
rewards for different achievements, like:

 Best Islamic Banking Credit Card in Palestine award for 2022 by International Finance
Magazine.
 Best bank that provides banking services and products compliant with Islamic law in
Palestine for the year 2022

And of course, other rewards in different years.

Activities carried out

Activities:

Excel reports:

Made an excel sheet as a report that contain customers that had incorrect contact phone/mobile
number.

Connecting to employees:

Got to know other employees and the different fields they are working in as well as Helped them
in English spellings in their emails.
Introduced and explained to my coach as well as other employees the idea of the dual studies
program also told them about the subjects I’m learning and the ones I will learn in near future.

The work life:

Got closer with my supervisor as well as the other students in the bank, and created an employee
account in the bank.

Installed Oracle on my personal laptop and created my own database for a library.

Practiced Websites:

Practiced in the banks website which the Bank uses to store employee's information and update
different data, also Practiced in A2A website that sends SMS messages to customers informing
them about various things.

Difficulties:

Handling confidential information:

Banks handle sensitive and confidential information on a daily basis, such as the personal
financial information of customers, which requires employees to be extremely careful and
diligent in handling the information.

Balancing customer needs and bank policies:

Banks have strict policies and procedures in place to manage risk, prevent fraud, and protect the
bank's interests. However, these policies may not always align with the needs and expectations of
customers, which can create challenges for employees in balancing the two.

Work-life balance:

Banking can be a demanding industry, and a number of employees like me find it challenging to
maintain a healthy work-life balance, particularly if I’m required to work extra hours.
Judgments:

Exposure to Different Departments:

During the practice period, I will get the opportunity to work in various departments of the bank,
which helps me understand the bank's functioning and operations.

Developing Professional Skills:

Practicing in a bank allows me to develop important professional skills such as time

management, communication, teamwork, and problem solving.

Opportunity for Feedback:

Practicing in a bank offers me the opportunity to receive feedback from experienced

professionals, which helps me improve my skills and performance.

During the first month of the practical period, I achieved a lot of targets that were given to me,
like:

 Creating a resume and cover letter with Word on Coursera

 Using Canva to Create Desktop and Mobile-Friendly Web Pages.
 Creating a no-code responsive website with Webflow.

And the grades for every one of the achievements are full marks.

Obstacles

 Getting used to the atmosphere of the work place.

 Having to change my sleep and study schedule.
 Making connections and starting conversations with other employees in the first week.
 Not having enough knowledge about the locations of the company in the first week.
 The difficulties faced outside of work include being confused and unused to making
reports about the practice.
Lessons learned

During the first month (in university):

I learned about all the different websites that help programmers get better at coding, like
Leetcode, in which I solved a lot of problems, and the various apps and sites that help students
get better at English, like Duolingo and Global Exam.

I took a lot of short courses that educated me about things like business etiquette, the social
media effects on employment, making decisions, leadership, and working in teams.

I learned all about Java object-oriented programming, as well as the basics of creating webpages
and networking basics, and got into a lot of discussion classes.

I took one lab class on basic networking and got to know how to use basic commands in
command prompt. One of the many commands is the ping command, which is used to
troubleshoot connectivity, reachability, and name resolution. In the same class, I learned a lot
about connectivity between devices and how to simulate it through programs like Cisco packet
tracer and other programs.

I took a number of courses online through the website Coursera, which were: how to make
PowerPoint presentations; how to create a website using Webflow and Canva; how to make a
resume and cover letter. As well as a small number of lab classes in web development using
basic HTML and CSS.

I visited multiple places in the university, like the library, where I got to know how the library
works, such as numerating books.

During the second month (in the Islamic Bank of Palestine):

Learned how to send meeting invites and arrange them via Microsoft Teams, and is capable of
sending emails to other employees by putting them in the cc line and sending emails to other
companies to inform them about a problem.

I got to know more about SQL and databases as well as the way banks store their employee
information through the different company storing servers and databases like the one Palestine
Islamic Bank uses, which is "Banks".
How to archive important papers like checks, contracts, and personal customer information And
Excel was one of the main programs I used for making reports.

I was able to observe in my daily practice the way of sending the updated and new information to
the Palestine Monetary Authority from the bank side as well as in the other way.

During the third month (in university):

The lessons learned in the third month are:

 I learned about object-oriented programming in Python.

 I had to do a lot of homework for the English classes, which made me better at writing.
 I took lectures on object-oriented programming in Java, which showed me a lot of great
examples that helped me better understand OOP in Java.
 I went to a number of web development lectures and lab classes that made me more
knowledgeable of HTML and CSS than before.
 I learned about linear algebra and how to use it in programming, especially in Python.

Recommendations

The recommendations that I see needing to be taken seriously into consideration are:

 Having a better connection between the practicing company and the university.
 Making the company have a better understanding of the practice period and the plan for
it.
