STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

It is after great deal of self-evaluation I have decided to pursue MSc in Operations,

Project and Supply Chain Management at Manchester Business School. This decision
followed naturally after carefully considering my aptitude, interest, nature of Training
and work experience I possess and my ultimate professional ambition. By choosing to
study at Manchester Business School I want to be a part of the top ten Business and
Management school. As a Statement of purpose of my graduate study, I describe here my
academic background, interests and career goals.

Operations Research is one such discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to

help make better decisions. It is characterized by its broad applicability and by a wide
variety of career opportunities and work styles it embraces. It is also characterized by its
interdisciplinary nature. Ford used Operations Research for optimizing prototype vehicle
testing which saved the company $250 million. IBM used it for matching Supply chain
demand at IBM Microelectronics. Thus it is evident that knowledge of operations
analysis can be applied to any industry ranging from automobiles, to manufacturing and
to management of logistics. I wish to pursue a Masters’ degree in Operations Research
and Management, as I believe it is a program that will build on my skills in Technology,
Mathematics and Computer Science.

From early childhood till today, most remarkable characteristics have been my curiosity
to learn new topics. I have keen interest for learning new ideas which enabled me to
acquire significant knowledge on various aspects of Management and Technology.
Degree in Engineering(Electronics & Communication) has given me a strong foundation
to develop my Analytical, Mathematical and Management skills, sundry platform to new
learning made me an achiever in each and every aspect of life, whether it be academic or
non- academic. This motivates me and creates a desire to build a strong foundation for a
career in Operations and Research.

The Part Time work I did in an Education providing company Triniti Centre for learning
as the role of Business Development Manager (BDM) realizes the role and challenges
faced by a manager. There I worked for four months, in which my responsibilities include
organizing and conducting seminars, marketing and publicizing of courses and client
building with the colleges. By working as a manager before having management degree
raise my aspirations for career in management.

Being an Executive and Representative in every kind of techno-cultural event and fests,
realized my potential of having leadership qualities and which got substantiated when I
was selected as an Executive Member and Head of college Technical club E-buzz, in
which my responsibilities include interacting with people, taking sponsorships, giving
newspaper advertisements and overall management and this in turn develop my overall
personality as a leader and team player. Since then I have been enthralled by the role
that Management plays in any organization or Industry.
Moreover my Placement with INFOSYS before completing my Engineering education in
the profile of Software Engineer through campus placement route inspires me for a high
rise career. More than what I have learned in school and college it has been these
experiences that have shaped the person I am today.

Apart from this I actively took part in various Social activities and Blood Donation
Camps. I assisted college in organizing a Seminar on Post Graduate Studies and National
level conference RAECT-06 (Recent Advances in Electronics and Communication
Technology). I stood first in presentation on topic “NASA in 2020” in Fiesta Technica-
2005 and awarded with a cash prize. Second position in Presentophobia (Presentation
Making) in National Level Fest Spell Bee 1.0 in Feb-2009. I am also an active member of
CCED (Chitkara Center for Entrepreneurship Development), in which I participated and
assisted the club in organizing various activities in which I gained experience and
Knowledge about Business and Entrepreneurship. These experiences were invaluable for
me since I learned the serviceability and functionality of various real world problems

As a part of undergraduate program, I had undergone four practical trainings. A two

month training which include language C & C++. Six weeks Industrial Training in
India’s largest Public sector Electronics Company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL)
which manufacture Telecommunication sets and Warfare Equipments for Indian Defence
and Other in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) which is India’s 1st Public Sector
Telecommunication Company. For six months Internship I was selected in Reliance
Communications, from Reliance Group, among the top 50 Enterprises in the World, and
there I worked in Infrastructure Managed Service Group (IMSG), which deals in IT
infrastructure, Designing and Development of a network etc. Working on the projects
gave me a sound technical base but the greatest advantage of involving in these activities
was that I developed the ability to multi-task effectively.

My minor project on ‘Message display on LCD using parallel port of computer’ and
major project on ‘Microcontroller based Electronic Voting Machine’ as a part of the
engineering course curriculum gave me Strong quantitative skills, familiarity with
computer applications and helped me to develop sharp analytical abilities It had given me
the confidence to tackle advanced problems on a macro level.

At the Manchester Business School, I know that my investment of time, energy, and
money will be well rewarded. By being a part of Manchester I have the access to The
John Rylands University Library at Manchester which holds over four million printed
items and the largest collection of electronic resources in the UK and also access to Top
Ranked Careers Services in UK which provide me career counseling and guidance. MSc
in Operations, Project and Supply Chain Management will not only allow me to
strengthen my base but also broaden my knowledge and understanding of business issues.
It will give me an in view of business from varying perspective like Operations, Supply
Chain, Process Improvement and Managing Projects. And above all this I learn how to
organize the production and delivery of products and services. I therefore feel the need
for a formal education in Management which I feel will help me tremendously in
