STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

I am KODARI VEERA PAVAN KALYAN, aged 24 years old, from the Indian State of Andhra
Pradesh. I am a Software Engineer, working for BIRLASOFT, Bangalore. My specific role is one
of “Business Process Developer”.

I have applied to the Valparaiso university for the Master of Science in Information Technology,
for the spring, 2023 intake. I would like to provide the following details in support of my
application to this course of study, in the following paragraphs:

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:

I completed my Senior Secondary Certificate examination in Telugu medium in 2012 with a

7.0/10 score, followed by my State Board of Technical Education & Training examination in the
year 2015 with a 65.97% score. Subjects studied included Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry. I
have been taught in the English medium in my Diploma.

I then took up the study of my B. Tech - Civil Engineering stream, which I completed in 2019
with a Percentage of 63.60%. This was at the Tirumala Engineering College, affiliated with the
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada.. These are of course in addition to the
mainline Civil subjects such as Fluid Mechanics. The objective of the study has been
Engineering Knowledge, Problem Analysis, Design, Development of Solutions, Investigate
Complex Problems and use of tools.

I am happy to say that since I was a Merit Scholar, I was exempted from payment of tuition fees
for all three years of my under-graduation.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Ever since I started working at Birlasoft, I have been deeply interested in the way
technology-enabled process automation and optimization can help businesses keep ahead in the
effective management of key objectives. I’m working with the Veolia Waste Management UK
domain team. In my role, I’m working as a Frontend Web Developer for multiple functions. I
have been working here in this role since 2021 July.

WHY STUDY NOW:

As I understood during my work experience, past work processes are getting streamlined through
process-centric methods, using technologies such as automation, analytics, IoT, Artificial
Intelligence, and Machine Learning.

I believe I am at the right stage, having some idea of how these processes are applied for the
overall betterment and smooth functioning of a business, to invest further time in an in-depth
study of Data Science. If I were to understand the domain, I would be better able to develop
specific skill sets that will help me contribute more effectively to my employer’s business
objectives.
The pandemic has also shown very clearly that recruiters are looking for candidates with more
skills in line with the latest implementations across the global industry, and are not willing to
invest too much time in training unskilled workers. An investment in an MS in IT would help me
become an effective professional right from day 1.

The USA offers the perfect academic atmosphere to aid independent learning, one that drives the
student to critical and analytical thinking and learning by conviction, which makes for long-term
retention. The facilities and support services offered to students in the universities are unmatched
anywhere else in the world and the USA has always been at the forefront of technology, so it
makes sense for me to go in for my Master’s in the USA.

WHY MS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AT VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY:

Referring to the University website itself, Information Technology degrees from Valparaiso
University.” It is extremely popular, has the latest facilities, a career center for finishing touches,
and an up-to-date curriculum that will fill in the knowledge gaps that I am currently facing, to
make me a professionally trained expert in the IT domain.

VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY has ongoing research in areas such as Software Engineering, Data
Structures, Operating Systems, and acquired the fundamentals of various subjects like,
Information Security ,Software Project Management, Web Technology, Python, Unix/Linux &
shell programming, Data Analytics & Algorithm, Computer Networks, Data Mining Techniques,
Cloud Computing, Distributed Systems, Database Management System, Advanced Database,
Design & Analysis of Algorithms, Digital Logic Design, Statistics Using Python, Data science
Using Python All these subjects provided me with a strong footing in the theoretical concepts of
Information Technology.

FUTURE GOALS:

As to my future goals, I feel that a thorough domain knowledge as offered by this well-designed
curriculum will give me the skills required by recruiters. Initially, I will work in roles such as
Software Developer, or in Business Intelligence, and given the exposure to the use of technology
across various business segments, I could grow upwards into meaningful roles such as IT
Manager, over the next 5 - 10 years. Building upon my networking skills over the study duration
as well as through contacts developed during my work experience, I believe in about 10 years
from now, I will be able to start off on my own, offering specialized skills to organizations as
they implement increasingly important IT infrastructure, software and processes to remain
competitive in business.

To conclude, I meet the study requirements to apply myself as best as possible to study in
VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY-MS IT. Given my consistent past academic performance, I am
confident that I will bring the same strengths to successfully manage the academic load of the
program.
I will participate fully in all campus activities of interest to me (“…cultural student organizations
to connect with students), apart from the various platforms in the area in the Information
technology domain. I will participate fully in campus life and whatever limited free time I will
have in keeping myself updated with various forums and groups dedicated to the propagation and
application of information technology across businesses.

I believe this study program marks a paradigm shift for me, one that will take me into a whole
new perspective and action that will take me into the higher realms of learning, and therefore a
most satisfying career in the future.
