Another Characteristics of the students in an English as a Second Language Classroom

Which is the Learning style

Habitual and preferred way of absorbing, processing, and retaining new information and
skill (Reid, 1995)
 It means the widely used to describe how learners gather, sift through, interpret,
organize, come to conclusions about, and “store” information.
There are 4 predominant learning styles: Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and
Kinaesthetic.
We have various learning styles that will enable us to learn in the SL classroom
For “Kinesthetic” learners, they learn through physical action such as miming and role-
play.
Auditory learners learn through listening. As such, attending lectures, tutorials, and
group discussions are absolutely essential for these learners.
Visual learners learn through seeing, so tools like diagrams, flowcharts, pictures and
symbols can be key to understanding new concepts.
If you’re a read/write learner, pay special attention to text book glossaries—better yet,
make your own as you progress through a course. After lecture, return to your notes for
review, read them over, and then create a new, condensed set of study notes. Lists can
also be a very useful tool.

That’s why, we should be skeptical of claims about the research on learning style that a
single book or teaching method will suit all the needs of all the learners.
The challenge is to find instructional approaches that meet the needs of learners with a
variety of aptitude and learning style profiles.
