Getting started with FiFLi

version 1.1

First officer and FLight attendant simulation or Precision Simulator X

FiFLi add-on is freeware !
Author: Vitomir Stokic

Hello dear user,

FiFLi has become quite complicated add on and because of that tutorial becomes necessary! There will be
certain changes as FiFLi will develop and I will try as my best to include them in next versions of tutorial !

Here are few important rules before we proceed to FiFLi summarised procedures:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>>> IMPORTANT : action that tells FiFLi to continue with next phase
>>> UNIMPORTANT : actions or procedures that will not impact FiFLi vital functions
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FiFLi will adjust its actions and recognise these flight phases (assuming that Normal Procedures from
Aerowinx Operations Manual are followed):

1. PARKED AT THE GATE

- ground speed must be zero
- beacon must be off
- engines must be off
- >>> rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to UNLKD or DENY and release it - to start boarding
2. BEFORE START PROCEDURE
- flaps must be up
- doors must be closed
- engines must be off
- >>> beacon must be turned on
3. RUNWAY ENTRY PROCEDURE
- beacon must be on
- flaps must be in takeoff position
- auto brakes must be set in RTO position
- >>> one pair of landing lights must be turned on (OUTBD on or INBD on), not both
4. AFTER TAKEOFF
- >>> landing gear must be up
5. CLIMB&CRUIZE
- minimum altitude of 10000 ft must be reached
6. DESCENT&APPROACH
- when closer than 250 nm to destination
7. AFTER LANDING PROCEDURE
- >>> speed brake must be retracted
- flaps must be in landing configuration
* these are simplified criteria that FiFLi takes into account for determining current flight phase.

On next page I will describe normal action flow assuming that you start new flight (from dark&cold). Any
detailed explanation of FiFLi options / actions will be included in FAQ section because I don't want to
“overload” action flow descriptions.

In description of the actions for Captain or First officer I will refer to Normal Procedures from Aerowinx
Operations Manual starting from page 560.

1 >>> Load PSX and FiFLi
- load your PSX with situation on the ground and FiFLi.
2 >>> Load FiFLi
- don't yet click "Connect me to PSX!" Button !
- first adjust FiFLi fields as you need: FO active, FA active language, Failures randomizer or Randomize ZFW.
3 >>> Enter planned ZFW and fuel
- when you enter values into ZFW and Fuel fields you will tell FiFLi to simulate loading passengers, cargo and fuel to desired
values (you can also force FiFLi to simulate unplanned cargo or passengers by randomising ZFW ). You can watch your weight
is slowly increasing via FMC PERF INIT page or Instructor —> Situation —> Service page. Loading will start when you tell
FIFLi to start boarding and it will finish as soon as you hear Attendant announcement “Boarding finished”, aircraft doors will
start to close.
4 >>> Press “Connect to PSX” button - FiFLI message: Parked at the Gate
- FiFLi will show message: “Parked at the gate”
- Proceed with “Cockpit safety checklist”.
- now you have done all necessary preflight setup FiFLi will start its flows.
- start Preliminary Cockpit Preparation (establish electrical power, IRS mode selectors to NAV, start programming FMC). After
you (as Captain) have done initial steps (the most important to start IRS align process which will take cca 7+ minutes ) you can
tell FiFLi to proceed with next step (initiate Boarding process).
5 >>> Rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to UNLKD or DENY and release it
- FiFLi will show message: “Boarding time: x mins”
- you should hear Attendant voice telling you that "Boarding has started" and in the bottom row of the FiFLi window you will see
boarding time which will decrease (boarding can take up to 40 mins). Simultaneously First officer will start his Cockpit
preparations: First officer will announce that he will do a walk around ("I am going to do a walk around"), and after few minutes
(usually up to 10 mins), he will announce that he is back ( "I am back, everything looks OK”), then he will start his Cockpit
preparation checks (it can take up to 10 mins).
- Proceed with “Preflight checklist”.
- if you had as mentioned in point 3. Enter planned ZFW and Fuel, entered your planned ZFW and Fuel you will see that your
weight and fuel loading will start. You can check this via FMC PERF INIT page or Instructor —> Situation —> Service page.
- FiFLi will automatically enter ORIGIN and DESTINATION Voice - ATC frequencies into required fields according to your RTE1
data (you can check this on Instructor —> Situation —> Human —> Voice - ATC).
- when boarding is finished you will see FiFLi message: “Boarding finished”, hear Attendant “Boarding is finished”, and you will
receive ACARS TELEX message about your final weight.
- FO will now enter your ATC frequencies into required Radio tuning panel L and R fields according to you departure /
destination fields in RTE1 page.
- FO will call Purser (you will hear dial tones and Purser will answer call), and FO will then announce “Doors are closing”.
- You can now call Ground control and obtain necessary clearance to start engines …
- Attendants will play their announcements …
6 >>> Move Beacon switch to either position LWR or BOTH
- FiFLi will show message: “Before start procedure” and FO will do “Before start items”. When he is finished, he will announce
“Ready for engine start” and FiFLi will show message: “Before start checklist”.
- Proceed with “Before start checklist”.
7 >>> Taxi to runway
- Do the After start checklist - Get your ground crew clearance and clearance for taxi.
- Proceed with “After start checklist”.
- Start taxiing to runway.
- Verify cabin “Cabin ready” message appearing on Cabin inter phone panel !
8 >>> Runway entry procedure - Turn on landing light pair on (OUTBD or INBD)
- When near runway and with clearance to line up, turn on pair of landing lights (OUTBD or INBD) - NOT ALL, only pair. This will
signal FO to start Runway entry procedure flow. FiFLi will show message “Runway entry procedure”. FO will announce “Cabin
crew, take your seats for takeoff”
- Proceed with “Before Takeoff checklist”.
9 >>> After Takeoff and Climb to Cruze Altitude
- Proceed with “After Takeoff checklist”.
- When altitude is over 10000 ft, FiFLi will enter Climb / Cruze mode. Now you decide when to move seatbelts switch to either
AUTO or OFF position. Shortly after you do this, Flight attendants will start their Cruise announcement.
- FiFLi will show message “Climb & Cruise”.
10 >>> Descent&Approach
- when closer than 250 nm to destination FiFLi will enter “Descent&Approach” mode.
- FiFLi will show message “Descent & Approach”.
- When passing altitude of 18000 ft, Flight attendants will make their announcement.
- Proceed with “Approach checklist”.
- Proceed with “Before landing checklist”.
11 >>> After Landing procedure - retract the speed brake
- Retract the speed brake - this is the signal that we are actually leaving runway and FO will start his After Landing procedure.
- FiFLi will show message “After Landing procedure”.
- Proceed with “After landing checklist”.
- Flight attendants will start their announcement …
11 >>> Parked at the Gate - shutdown engines, move Beacon switch to OFF
- Set parking brake, shutdown all the engines, move Beacon switch to OFF position.
- When all conditions are satisfied FiFLi will show message “Parking checklist.
- FO will start his parking checklist flow and after he is finished, you will hear FO calling Purser station and after that he will open
doors.
- Proceed with “Shutdown checklist”.
- After cca 5 mins you will get external supplies: bleed air, conditioned air and ext pwr 1 or ext pwr 2.
