4 Then and Now


Performance Task: Comparing Historical Events with Current Events:
Directions: Select a historical event to compare with a current event affecting society.
Gather information about both events you selected. You can use websites such as: The San Juan Daily
Star, AP News, and any other reliable source.
Step by Step process:
• Choose a historical event (the historical event can be from anywhere in the world.)
• Research the historical event. Gather sufficient information from trustworthy sources.
Include name of source for future references.
• Choose a current event that you can compare the historical event with.
• Research the current event. Gather sufficient information from trustworthy sources.
• Compare the event with the historical event. Analyze the conflict and determine the cause
and effect of both. What are some of the similarities and differences? Use the Venn
Diagram PDF attached in Moodle to complete this part of the assignment.
• Answer the following questions: Have you seen any advancement with the issue since the
historical event? What is your opinion about these events? How does the current event
affect society? How can we create awareness? What would be some of the consequences if
the problem were not solved?
• Create a detailed plan on how to solve the event or issue. Describe your plan in detail.
• Share conclusions in oral presentation using a poster or power point presentation. Prepare
a speech where you expose your research findings and describe your plan to solve the
problem. You can enhance your presentation by using visual aids (images and/or videos). I
will include a template in Moodle.
• Be prepared to answer questions from the audience.

What will you use to solve the problem?

Prepare presentation:
Use a poster or power point presentation to report your findings.
Your report must contain the following:
- Cover page.
- Description of both events/issue with credit to source. (You can use video or pictures to showcase
the event/issue.)
- Venn Diagram
- Your plan to solve the problem.
