Objectives:
At the end of the 40-minute lesson, the kindergarten pupils should be able to do the following with at
least 75% proficiency.
Subject Matter:
“We care for plants in the environment”
References: National Kindergarten Curriculum Guide, Week 34, Page 492.
Materials: printed pictures, manila paper or cartolina, coloring materials, scotch tape and pilot pen.
Procedure:
I. Introduction
The teacher greets the pupils.
- Good Morning children. (Good morning teacher) How was your day? This day is a great day to
start our class, isn’t? Are you all now excited to learn more about today’s discussion?
The teacher asks the pupils to stand up for the prayer.
- But before that, may I ask everyone to stand as we start this with a prayer? (Prayer)
The teacher introduces the action song entitled “Mag tanim ay di biro”.
- I know that all of you loves to sing and dance, and so this time we are going to sing the “mag
tanim ay di biro” are you all now ready?
Have pupils repeat after the action song.
II. Modelling
The teacher show a picture/concept web to learners and ask them as to what they see in the
picture.
- I will show you here a picture. Now what do you see? (a plant) What else? (Soil, water, sun and
air) very good. Here in this picture, we can see a plant, a soil, a water, an air and a sun.
The teacher discuss to the learners that the things that are found in the picture are the needs of
the plants.
- Plants are important, they give us food and provide us air that we breath. Since it is important, it
is necessary for us to know the needs of the plants to survive.
The teacher asks the learners ‘why do you think the plants need these things’
- Why do you think plants need these things? Let us now discuss the needs of the plants to grow.
- The plants, needs WATER, it absorbs through the roots and travels through the stem and into the
leaves. It also helps move nutrients around the plants. LIGHT, plants needs light for energy that
comes from the sun. AIR, plants also needs air to breath they turn the carbon dioxide that we
breath out into oxygen that we breath in. And lastly, plants needs SOIL, plants have roots under
the soil, it provides the roots with water and nutrients.
The teacher discuss the importance of the plants and ask the learners ‘why do we need plants in
our lives and in our environment?’
- After the discussion about knowing the needs of the plants, why do you think we need plants in
our lives and in our environment?

III. Guided Practice
The teacher will ask one learner at a time to go on the board and check one of the needed of
plants in the checklist.
- And now, I believed that you all learned from the discussion. I have here some pictures presented
and all you need to do is to check ☑the given box to the corresponding picture if it what the plants
needs. And put an ❎ if it is not one of the needs of the plants.
