Step 1: Web conference summary

This was the first web conference at the course Academic Writing. It was conducted by

course director Milly Andrea Muñoz. She started with a greeting and explaining the topic for this

web conference, which was about Unit 1, which is divided in tasks one and two. The one we

finish and the one that we are doing right now, she explained on second 0:49 that using

prewriting techniques, we are expected to organize topic ideas and supporting information

before writing tentative sections of statements for task number 2. After explaining that the ones

who were participating on the web should take screenshots, she made a presentation of the

course agenda and continuously, a brief presentation of herself and the other tutor for this

course Cristian Cañón. Then After this, she started with a deeper introduction of herself and all

the experiences she has lived as an English teacher. On minute 8:33, she started with the topics

related with the course, starting with the course agenda, times for the activities, when to

participate in the forum, also some aspects of the platform, the environments and where to find

the resources, etc. she moved on with the explanation of each step corresponding to task 1. She

said that since job 2 requires us to accomplish the same thing, we should concentrate on the idea

of active reading to comprehend what we are reading and create a strong point of view

paragraph. She then began by outlining Task 2 and the procedures that needed to be taken in

order to complete it: writing an opinion piece, take screenshots or summarizing the online

conference, completing some suggested activities, watching a video, creating a timeline, and

sending everything as a pdf document. Teacher Muñoz made it apparent that this assignment

requires the development of 4 steps in order to be completed. In addition to mentioning the

synchronous support channels that students must use to address questions and issues, the

director closed by reminding us that practice is the key to becoming good writers.

I find this particular lesson, one of the most useful when it comes to writing, since having
an idea of what you want to write about and how you will develop that idea is important to
get high quality writings.

LESSON 4: GUIDELINES FOR ASSERTIVE DEVELOPMENT UNDER

INVESTIGATION AND LEARNING.

I find this particular lesson, one of the most useful when it comes to writing, since having

an idea of what you want to write about and how you will develop that idea is crucial to get high

quality writings. I think this, because, first, developing a thesis is the first step to organize your

ideas in your writing assignment, since it helps you determine the reasons why, what are the

motivations to write about that and what does the topic of choice encompass. Another reason is

the explanation about how to support out thesis, after having your thesis, the lesson 4 explains

you how we can develop our ideas and support our thesis, for me this is a key part of our writing

because having a list of your main ideas linked with support details will help you to get a more

organized writing product. And this leads me to my last reason and the most important in my

opinion, having organizations strategies during the process is importantly highlighted for

developing a successful writing assignment. When you have an organization strategy such as:

sequence charts, spider maps, etc. at the end, you will have an organized paper, this is important

if we want to get high quality and clarity on the subject matter presented. As a conclusion, in

order to obtain an excellent result when you need to write, it is necessary to investigate, to feel

that subject and how it turns out in day-to-day life.

Thesis statement: 

Writing has been an important part for the development of my academic life, I’ve learnt

how to clearly express my ideas on university tasks, using arguments to support my ideas and

text structuration in order to get an organized text, in Spanish and English as well
