DIAGNOSIS

English gaps Description of shortcomings or

deficiencies of previous courses are some
examples of real-life tasks used in a Task-
Based Approach (TBA).

WRITING Struggles with sentence structure and

coherence in writing

READING Difficulty pronouncing and understanding

words in reading

SPEAKING Challenges in organizing and expressing

ideas grammatically

LISTENING Misinterprets spoken English and struggles

with accents

VOCABULARY Limited vocabulary recall and word

knowledge

PHONETICS Pronunciation issues affecting clarity

These are groups that despite being in level B1 have difficulties in communicating, and
organizing sentences properly or grammatically, They also have difficulties with pronunciation
and vocabulary because they do not remember the words or do not know them. When they listen
to someone speaking English, they do not understand exactly or they understand something
differently and in reading they are not able to pronounce the words well and understand them.

2. Respond to the following questions:

¿What is Participatory Action Research (PAR)? Define the characteristics and main
aim of PAR.

Participatory Action Research (PAR) is a research approach and methodology that

actively involves the people or communities being studied as active participants in the research
process. It goes beyond traditional research methods where researchers collect data from subjects
in a detached, objective manner.

Characteristics

It is collaborative and involves both researchers and the community in a cooperative

partnership. It emphasizes shared decision-making and mutual respect. It is not solely about
generating knowledge but also about taking concrete actions to address identified problems or
issues. Typically follows a cyclical process of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. It
involves multiple iterations, with each cycle building on the insights and actions of the previous
one.

¿What is a Task-Based Approach (TBA)? Define the characteristics and main aim
of TBA.

A Task-Based Approach is a language teaching and learning methodology that centers

around the use of meaningful, real-life tasks as the basis for language instruction. It is
particularly associated with second language acquisition and is used in various language
education settings, including classrooms, language courses, and immersion programs. Some
characteristics: Focus on real life, it emphasizes the use of authentic, real-world tasks that
learners might encounter in their daily lives. These tasks could include ordering food in a
restaurant, booking a hotel room, conducting job interviews, or solving problems in a group. It
strongly emphasizes communication and encourages learners to use language to accomplish
tasks. The primary goal is effective communication rather than simply learning grammar or
vocabulary in isolation. This is what I consider exactly the way to learn a new language.

Ensures that language learning occurs within a meaningful context. This helps learners
grasp the subtleties of language use and cultural nuances. Also, learners' needs and interests tend
to be more motivating and engaged in the language learning process.
