Attempt any five questions from this section, each carry five marks.
5x5=25 marks

Q1. List down the reasons that are making the transition from fossil fuel-based economy to renewable
fuels-based economy.
Q2. Stoichiometric air for methane burning (CH4) is 10.42 m3/m3. Assuming: the rate feeding of
methane V = 10 m3/h and the rate feeding of air V = 114.62 m3/h. Calculate the stoichiometric
ratio and excess air.
Q3. Classify fuels on the basis of various criterions.
Q4. List down various hydrogen production methods.
Q5. Explain gasification in details.
Q6. What are the primary and secondary pollutants. Give two examples of each.
Q7. define enthalpy of formation and stoichiometric air-fuel ratio.

Section - B
Attempt any three questions from this section, each carry 15 marks.
3x15=45 marks

Q8. What is a bomb calorimeter? Explain its purpose, construction and working with neat and clean
schematic diagram.

Q9. Define air quality index (AQI). What are different pollutants used in its calculation? Mention its
various ranges along with their color code and recommendation associated with each range.
Q10. What are different ways of biogas production? Mention its composition. Can CNG in the vehicles
be replaced with biogas? if yes, please provide a background of the standard/recommended of the
ministry of transportation.
Q11. What are major air pollutants? Explain impact of each pollutant of human health and the
environment in details.
Q12. Arun is an entrepreneur, and he wants to start a home delivery service of cooked food. For that he
needs to buy a brand new cookstove and fuel. He has two options, fuel A and fuel B. Fuel A has a
calorific value of 2000kj/kg and its stove has an efficiency of 55%, while fuel B has a calorific value of
32kj/kg and its stove has an efficiency of 65%. Cost of the fuel A is ₹ 45/kg while cost of fuel B
is
₹70/kg. In long term, which fuel and stove should he choose? Assume both the stoves costs the same.
