Beginning of Activity
"Today we are going to talk to each other through the windows. We might not be able to fully hear each

with an adult while the other half is inside with an adult. They will all start by waving and showing off
things from inside or outside to have conversations with.
Middle of Activity

Early: Children in earlier developmental ability can stand at the window looking at another student on the other
side.

Middle: Children at the middle developmental ability can wave and say things aloud to children on the
other side of the window.

Later: Children at a later developmental ability can start conversations nonverbally with children through the
window using their hands and objects they can find.

End of Activity
“We were able to talk with our class through the window without hearing what they were saying! We’re all
going to go outside now for our outside time.”

Follow-up Ideas
This activity can be continued by putting taping paper on the window for children to practice drawing
on a new surface. This relates to the creative arts kdi.
