1. Check chart for information related to client’s ability to


participate in the procedure.
Assess the client for specific symptoms.
Check the needed supplies in the room.

2. Move the client to the side of the bed to make working close to
an object, thus preventing muscle strain.
3. Spread the towel under the client’s head

4. Turn the client to the opposite side, arrange hair toward you
then loosen and part the hair along the middle of the scalp If
matting is present, moisten it with little oil or alcohol.
5. Doing it by section, comb or brush the hair gently and
thoroughly.
6. If the hair is long, with one hand holding the strand slack
between the scalp and the free end comb or brush it starting
from the free end, then moving progressively towards the
scalp until the whole is done.
7. Make 2 braids, one on either side or make a bun at the head top
and secure in place by hair clips.
8. With one hand raising the head, remove the towel by rolling or
folding the ends toward the center- Prompt disposal of
contaminated.

9. Move the client back to the center of the bed to make her
comfortable.
