Water Pollution

Contamination in general is present everywhere in Honduras, and it affects a

great part of the environment in Honduras, and it could also affect humans
as well. Contaminants in the environment can look and smell pretty nasty,
but their impacts go beyond. Some pollutants resist breakdown and
accumulate in the food chain. These pollutants can be consumed or
absorbed by fish and wildlife, which could also be eaten by us. Chemicals
can also get into sediments, impacting large coastal areas, threatening
human health. There are 3 or more types of contamination, water, land, and
air. If pregnant women are exposed to air pollution from car exhaust, it can
alter the structure of the chromosomes in the fetus and increase the risks of
cancer and various birth defects as well. And the main causes of air
pollution, as well as climate change, is the burning of fossil fuels.

Cars, factories, and all of those things, are the real culprits of this
world-wide crisis. Just like the air we breathe, water is vital to our survival.
We need clean water to drink, to irrigate our crops and the fish we eat live in
the waters. It’s a precious resource that can easily be polluted and the
contamination can be transferred to us and affect our health. Water, as we
know, is the most important valuable resource that we humans need. We
need to get enough water every day because It is important for our health.
Drinking water can prevent dehydration, a condition that can cause unclear
thinking, result in mood change, cause your body to overheat, and lead to
constipation and kidney stones. Water helps our body to keep a normal
temperature, to get rid of our wastes, such as urination. And we desperately
need water when we are physically active, in hot climates, or running a fever,
etc. Overall, water is the most important valuable resource that creates life.
Because of water, we wouldn’t even be here.

It is recommended that we do not wait until we are thirsty to drink water;

because we may already be slightly dehydrated. Thirst is usually an
indicator that body fluids are well below required levels for optimal function.
We need to drink water before we become thirsty, or have a dry mouth.
The contamination of water is considered as water pollution. Water
pollution is basically the contamination of water sources, water sources are
very important for us humans, we need water in order to drink, clean, cook,
etc. Water pollutants could be viruses, bacteria, chemicals, and parasites.
And the way this would affect Honduras, is that water pollution could affect
the organisms that live in water, and it also causes ocean acidification,
because it could alter food supply for humans, and alter marine food chains,
and there are many other factors as well.

Water pollution is one of the many problems that Honduras has, and it
could lead to a great decline in the food supply, because we also get a lot of
food from the lakes, and rivers. What are some of the solutions we can do to
prevent the water pollution in Honduras? The best solution we have, even
though it is really difficult to cure this crisis, is to use less water. Clean, fresh
water may seem a lot, but there is a limited amount available on earth. We
need to use water-saving devices on sinks, in toilets, and in showers. Take
short showers instead of baths. Do not run the water constantly while
brushing our teeth. Wash clothes when we have a full load of laundry. Only
water our lawn and plants when absolutely necessary. And another solution
we have, is to not pour oil or other chemicals into the drainage system on
the street. A little oil can kill many plants and animals. Do not litter,
especially near water. Litter may be eaten as food by animals and cause
harm to them. Do not use pesticides on lawns, or use only organic ones. Use
less fertilizer, also. All these can enter our water sources. It is really
important for us to protect our water, because it is our most important
resource, that keeps us alive.
