Issues:

related to the commemoration of Bali bombings, Indonesia, as the host, is the one who has
the most responsibility to ensure the safety of the foreigners. Has Indoneisa succeeded in
crushing terrorism?

Pro:

to respond to this issues, Indonesia has taken some action to against the terrorism since the
first Bali bombings. Indonesia had done the investigation and prosecution of suspects, then
they reached the conclusion that Jamaah Islamiyah (JI), an al-Qaeda-linked regional terrorist
network, was responsible for the attacks. Furthermore, three of defendants have been
executed. Indonesia has worked hard in mustering up the terrorism.

Kontra:
despite the success, many others who threaten our country’s security and safety are still at
large, and even more determined to groom new recruits to their networks of hatred and terror.
Smaller cells of radical groups and new, younger faces of terror have emerged, continuing the
mission, but with significantly different targets. Initially attacks in Indonesia were aimed at
Westerners and American symbols. Now terrorists target Indonesian “infidels” such as
police, anti-terrorism squads, lawmakers and others deemed as obstacles to transforming the
country into an Islamic state governed by Sharia law.

Conclusion:

Whether Indonesia succeeded or not, it’s not a big deal. The most important thing that should
be note is The fight against terror in Indonesia must not stop despite the termination of the
bombings commemoration because terrorism will not stop, and may strike in any form and at
any time.

The communicative purpose

To present two different points of views on the success of Indonesia in the fight against
terrorism.
