Question 2
(a) Horse Play
Horse play means any activity that involves inappropriate contact with another
person, without intent to harm them and by virtue of the contact's outcome, has not
substantially harmed another person. This may include any act that it is not
intended to damage or harm. However, if the act is determined to be the one that
could have cause substantial harm or damage, one may be found responsible for
more serious offense
(b) Horse Play and possible consequences of each horseplay
HORSE PLAY CONSEQUENCES

Threatening to push someone in a pit Someone can have a fracture or dislocate

Playfully splashing on excavator May result in someone being hit by the
operator water while operating the excavator and it may tip over causing
machine injury to the operator

Using hand to stop a rotating ceiling fan May result in someone's fingers being
cut off by the fan

Playfully throwing a work tool on a The tool can hit someone and cause
fellow worker serious injuries

Playfully trying to recover a sharp object Someone can be lacerated by the sharp
from fellow worker forcefully object

Jumping from height to test strength May result tripping and falling of the
when a safe access has been approved worker

Competing to jump over excavation May result in death of someone and

dislocation of bones

Knock sealed boxes onto a worker May cause serious head injuries
Question 3
The tools that an electrician should put in a tools box and function of each tool
TOOL FUNCTION

Approved voltage indicator( AVI) It determines the presence or absence of

electricity. It is also used to detest AC
voltages on sockets, switches and circuit
breakers. Also used to check that power
has been switched off before commencing
an electrical project

Electrical Wall Chaser It is used for cutting narrow grooves and

channels into walls to install cables or
conduit

Electrical tape It is used to insulate wires or other items

that conduct electricity. It is self adhesive
and pressure sensitive, built to resist
abrasion , heat and liquids in order to
protect the sensitive conducting care with
electrical wiring

Insulated screwdrivers They work through the simple application

of torque-rotational force when the head
of the screwdriver has been inserted into
the shot on the screw

Wire strippers Are used to remove the outer shealth from

cables in order to attach connectors to the
central core via crimping or soldering.

Cable cutters They cut through standard wiring easily.

They also provide a handy way to strip off
insulation for crimping and similar
operations quickly

Hex keys / Allen keys Used to adjust hexagonal fasteners and

fixings. They also used as extensions to
screwdrivers

Hacksaw They're designed primarily for cutting

through metal objects.

Insulated pliers They pinch , grip, cut and bend with their

own tip. They can be adjusted according
to the size of the material being cut or
bent

Spanners Used to loosen or attach bolts or similar

fixings. They are used to ensure close fit
between the head and to achieve a tight
grip.

Battery drill Is used for drilling holes in wooden

materials, walls and other tough surfaces
and fixing screws and fasteners onto
surfaces

Multi tool It is very versatile is ideal for cutting a

variety of materials for example flooring,
tiles, plasterboard, wood and PVC

Magnetic torch/ Head torch Used when one is working in the dark on
many occasions when the power is turned
off. They are also good as they allow one
to work hands free

Multifunctional tester Used to ensure that any installation is

installed correctly and that all test
readings meet the requirements as laid out
in the IET

Fish tape/draw wire/ electrician's snake Used for many applications including
drawing cables through conduit or fishing
cables access ceilings or down walls

Question 4
Procedure to be followed if the fire is detected in a college workshop
1. Activate the fire alarm
2. Report any fire to the department of fire and safety team immediately
3. Follow instructions from fire marshalls and safety officers
4. Switch off electrical supply at main switch
5. Switch off gas supply at the tap
6. Phone facilities management to switch off air conditioning
7. Phone risk management for help
8. Use smoother blanket in case of small fire
9. Use water on all paper or wood fires
10. Use CO² extinguishers on all fires including electrical fires
11. Use dry chemical powder cylinders if other methods do not succeed
12. If the fire is out of control, do not attempt to put it out, evacuate from the
building immediately
13. If the fire alarm rings after hours. Take the after hour book with you if
possible to the assembly point
14. Place an "all clear" sign on the door as you leave to indicate that the room
has been evacuated.
15. Do not use the central stairwell as an emergency exit, unless both
emergency exits are inaccessible
16. Gather for a head count at the emergency gathering.
17. Do not enter the building again until it has been declared safe to
Question 5
(a) Clothes to wear and why when maintaining batteries
1. Rubber glove - to avoid spillage or splashing as it can destroy clothing and
cause damage to the skin. Also guard against battery acid
2. Hard hat- it is important during the lifting process in case a battery swings or
falls
3. Rubber boots/safety shoes - in case battery falls.
4. Safety goggles- to guard against splashing and bursting of batteries
especially when charging
(b) Clothes to wear when drilling or welding
1. Fire/flame resistant clothing- protects against heat burns and radiation
2. Respirators - protects against fumes and oxides
3. Ear muffs, ear plugs- protects against noise
4. Welding helmet and goggles- protects from flying particles, debris, radiation,
hot slag ,sparks, intense, light and chemical burns
Question 6
The procedure that you should take upon finding workmate unconscious under
receiving an electric shock while touching cables
• Turn off power, unplug an appliance, if plug is undamaged or shut off power
via circuit breaker, fuse box or out side switch
• If you cannot turn off power , try to separate the person from current using
non-conductive object or something dry such as wood or plastic broom,
handle , chair or rubber doormat
• When you can safely touch the person , begin CPR if the person shows no
signs of circulation, such as breathing, coughing or movement
• Try to prevent the injured person from becoming chilled
• Apply the bandage cover any burned areas with sterilised bandage, if available
or a clean cloth. Do not use a blanket a towel because base fibers can stick to
the burns
