Ace Lehner explained the Richard Avedon shot in this passage. His
image is always above the surfaces and is replete with hints. He also
added that although people's surfaces often reveal more about
something, it can occasionally be confusing. Since we are merely
observers and cannot evaluate any image objectively, avedon portrait
holds that the more we examine a photograph, the more we come to
understand it. Sometimes we don't know too much about a picture, so
we have to utilise our conscious minds to draw any conclusions about
the person or thing in the picture. The interaction between the
photographer and the subjects of any photograph that strengthens our
understanding is further addressed in this text.
