HYBRID CONSTRUCTION
LIGHT FRAME
CONSTRUCTION

The use of closely

spaced members
of dimension
lumber size
combined with
sheathing to form
the structural
elements of the
building.
LIGHT FRAME
CONSTRUCTION
PLATFORM CONSTUCTION
Consists of a floor
platform upon which the
walls are built.

The second story floor is

then built on top of the
first-floor walls.
LIGHT FRAME
CONSTRUCTION
PLATFORM CONSTUCTION
Advantages:
Short, easily handled lumber
Made entirely of 2" lumber
Automatic fire stop
Working platforms
Nail Connections

Disadvantages:
Vertical Shrinkage
LIGHT FRAME
CONSTRUCTION
BALLOON CONSTUCTION
Wall members continue past the
floors.

The joists are then suspended

from the completed wall frames
on a ribbon strip.
LIGHT FRAME
CONSTRUCTION
BALLOON CONSTUCTION
Advantages:
Full Length Studs
Less vertical shrinkage
Reduces variation in settlement of
framing and the masonry veneer

Disadvantages:
Full length studs difficult to handle
Difficult to erect
Firestop is Difficult
