 I-96 resurfacing from
Cascade Rd. to M-11
(28th St.) & Burton St.
Bridge work
• Total Investment: $6.2 Million
• The project includes three miles of asphalt
milling and resurfacing, pavement markings and
bridge rehabilitation on Burton St. over I-96.
• Schedule: May 2023 – October 2023
• This project will improve ride quality and extend
the service life of both the existing roadway and
bridge.
I-96, Cascade to M-11
Traffic Impacts
• Daily single-lane closures with traffic shifts on EB and
WB I-96.
• The following ramps will be closed for one week:
• Off ramp from EB I-96 to EB M-11
• Off ramp from WB I-96 to WB M-11
• The following ramps will be closed for two weeknights
between 8PM and 6AM:
• Off ramp from EB I-96 to WB M-11
• Off ramp from WB I-96 to M-11
• WB I-96 on and off ramps at Cascade Rd.
Burton St. Bridge over
I-96 Traffic Impacts
• Total closure of Burton Street over I-96
between June 2023 and August 2023
• Burton Street traffic will be detoured using
Patterson Avenue, M-11 and Kraft Avenue.
 M-21 (Fulton Street) resurfacing
from I-96 to Grand River Drive

• Total Investment: $5.0 Million

• Improvements:
• Four miles of resurfacing
• Construction of indirect left-
turn lanes and right-turn lane
• Sidewalk and guardrail
• Schedule:
June – Oct, 2023
 M-21 from I-96 to Grand River Drive
• Traffic Impacts:
• Shoulder closures, single-lane closures, and traffic shifts
• Crossover closures at Taos Ave., Alta Dale Ave. and Rippling Dr.

 M-21 Crossover Reconfiguration
• Indirect left-turn lanes added at Taos Avenue and Rippling Drive
• Right-turn lane added at Alta Dale Avenue
• Through movements will be removed at these three intersections
I-96 pavement repair from Whitneyville Ave. to the Kent/Ionia county line

• Total Investment: $2.5

from 84th Avenue to I-196

• Total Investment: $2 Million

• Reconstruction of WB and EB Byron Rd
• Schedule: April-July, 2023
• Full Closure and Detour of Byron Rd
• Ramp Closures at Byron Rd
• WB I-196 On Ramp Closure after
Memorial Day
• Ramp open from WB I-196 to WB I-196
Business. No access to EB Byron Rd.
M-40 Hamilton
• Total Investment: $2.9 Million
• Intersection Realignment at M-40 and 48th St.
• Signal upgrade with left turn movement at M-40
and 136th Ave.
• Resurfacing and new left turn lane north of 136th
Ave.
• Drainage improvements
• Minimize School Impacts
• Two lanes maintained as much as
possible. Minimal flagging. Local road detours.
• Schedule: June – August, 2023
Road
improvements in
Big Rapids
May 8 – July 1,
2023

• $4.3 million to resurface 5.75 miles of US-131 Business Route (BR)

and M-20 in Big Rapids. Work includes concrete joint repairs,
concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, and the installation of a new
traffic signal at State Street and Gilbert Road. Traffic signal work
started March 20. Road work is scheduled to start May 8.
Bridges over I-196 in
Allegan County
• Total Investment: $8.3 Million
• Bridge improvements on Blue Water
Highway over I-196 at exit #’s 36 and
41.
• Bridge improvements on 107th, 109th
and 114th avenues over I-196.
• Bridge closures with detours
• Schedule: May – September, 2023
Resurfacing SB US-31
from 32nd Street to
Central Avenue in
Holland
• Total Investment: $3.9
Million

• Storm sewer repairs,

drainage improvements, a
new traffic signal at US-31
and M-40 (Lincoln Avenue),
curb and gutter
replacement, and new
guardrail.
