Nervous System Activity:
Break it down!

1. Create a concept mam showing the different components and relationship of the Nervous
system.
Nervous system is one of the most complex systems in the body both humans and
animals, which it is responsible for transmitting signals from the brain to various body
parts for them to function. It is responsible for the movements or more skills of the
entire body. This means that the voluntary and involuntary movements are all
transmitted from the brain to the nervous system. Aside from that, it has control over
other body organ systems since its house the brain, which is a control center of a living
body.
As seen from the concept above, there are two subsystems within the nervous system.
These are classified into the central nervous system which consists of the brain and
spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system consisting of al nerves within the body.

Before you go on

1. Explain the difference between a sensory neuron, motor neuron and interneuron.
- Based on their roles, the neurons found in the human nervous system can be divided
into three classes, the sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons. Sensory
neurons is the one that carry signals from the other parts of your body into the central
nervous system. It is also responsible for converting external stimuli from the
environment into corresponding internal stimuli. While motor neurons is the one that
carry signals from the central nervous system to the other parts like our muscles, skin,
and glands of our body. They project their axons outside of the central nervous system
to directly or indirectly control muscles. And interneurons connects various neurons
within the brain and spinal cord, which convert external stimuli and control muscle
movement.

2. What is the functional difference between a dendrite and an axon?

- Nerve cells have two vital and distinctive components within them, which are called
the axon and the dendrite. The short branching processes are known as dendrites, while
the ones that are longer than the dendrites are known as axons. Dendrites receives
electrochemical impulses from other neurons, and carry them inwards and towards the
soma, while axons carry the impulses away from the soma.
