Name

1) (3 points) You are given the a pair of vectors. Find the angle between the vectors. If an angle is not
“nice”, you may leave your answer with cos−1 in it, or give a decimal approximation from a calculator.
(1, 2, 3) and (3, −2, 1)

2) (4 points) You are given a vector F, and a non-zero vector v in Rn . Find the components of F parallel
and normal to v, i.e., find the orthogonal projection Fv = projv (F) of F onto v, and Fn = F − Fv .
Verify, explicitly, that Fv and Fn are orthogonal to each other. F = (2, 3), v = (1, −1).

3) (3 points) Determine a vector equation for a line that contains the point (7, 5, −1) and is perpendicular
to the plane given by 3x − 2y + 5z + 4 = 0.
