Dear Admission Officer,

Hello, my name is Hayden You and I am a student who wants to attend Caltech. I am
currently attending Walnut Grove Secondary School in Langley BC and my desired major is
computer science. I am in the computer coding club at school and I play on the basketball
team for my school.

I am a hard worker, if there is something I want I try my best to achieve. I would dare to
proclaim my strength lies in the fact that I am not afraid of failure. However, as there is a
saying “there is no perfect human “, I believe I am not careful enough in making important
decisions because I trust myself too much. In order to correct this defective character, I try to
listen to advice and thoughts from others.

My interest in computers began with a video game called Minecraft. As I played the game, I
was curious about “How did people make this game so nice?”, so I used the computer
frequently and I researched about how to make a computer game. I started going to a coding
academy. I learned how computer coding works and robotics. I was feeling happy while I
was coding and making robots. When I entered the eighth grade, my dream was going to
google and making lots of programs.

I also did a lot of volunteering and group activities. I went to church and taught Korean to
others, I translated for my basketball coach and I picked up garbage in my community.
During the coding club, I made games and programs for the convenience of life. I am always
ready to help other people and work with others. Listening to others, giving advice and
making solutions for people are a few of my strengths. If I get into Caltech I can make a
bright and better workspace for myself and others.

I played a variety of sports, I learned some languages and I was raised by very nice
parents. I work in a team because I played many team sports, I can speak Korean, Chinese
and English. I know the basic manners and respect for others. My dad always said that
being polite to older people is very important and my mom taught me to never say bad things
about other people. My mindset is to never give up, to put all of my effort into achieving my
goals and respect others.

Thank you for reading my admission.
