CASE STUDY 1:
Water Sustainability
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia –
Raymond International’s Contribution
More desalination plants are planned. In 2021 the Shuqaiq Phase 3 desalination plant,
located on the Red Sea, will be one of Saudi Arabia's biggest desalination plants. The
plant will process 450,000 m³ per day and cater for a population of 2 million people in the
Southern region of Saudi Arabia.
The capital Riyadh is supplied with desalinated water pumped from the city of Jubail on
the Arabian Gulf. In 2019 Raymond International started corrosion protection work on
a 412 km long twin 2.2 meter diameter pipeline which will be one of the largest water
transmission systems in the world. The pipelines will transport 1.2 million m³ of potable
water per day to meet the ever growing demand for water in Riyadh city.

The lining can be applied either insitu after the pipes have been installed or in a
stackyard adjacent to the project prior to installation. Linings can either be cement
mortar lining consisting of ordinary Portland cement mortar, ideal for potable water,
or specialist chemically resistant mortars for wastewater projects which are subject
to hydrogen sulphide attack.
The Centriline Process can be used in pipes with a diameter as small as 75mm and
in tunnels up to 6000mm diameter.
Linings can be modified with microsilica fume for less permeability and enhanced
erosion resistance suitable for use in seawater transmission and water injection
pipelines.
Raymond’s custom coating plants are fitted with state of the art equipment for preparing,
coating and handling a wide range of piping. Manual and automated application and
process control techniques have been developed to ensure product quality.
Liquid epoxy and fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) powder spray coatings are applied in
enclosed rooms to maintain a clean working environment. The plant layout is designed
to facilitate a smooth flow of piping through the various processes. These coatings have
excellent adhesion to steel pipe surfaces and provide long term corrosion resistance.
Thermal spray aluminium and thermal spray cladding provide dependable corrosion
protection for pipelines and for tubes/waterwalls in boilers where high temperature
corrosion and/or erosion may occur. Thermal arc spraying, commonly known as metal
spray coating, is a process by which metals are sprayed onto the surface of another
material using a high velocity continuous combustion process. This process changes the
pipe surface properties by providing improved thermal conductivity and wear resistance.
HIGH BUILD EPOXY
PIPE COATING
Raymond is an approved/certified applicator of high build epoxy
(HBE) coatings on pipelines based on state of the art Novolac
epoxy/urethane chemistry.
These are fast cure, solvent free, high build epoxy coatings. They
are applied by using electronic proportioning, plural component,
airless spray equipment. HBE is an abrasion resistance overlay
which is compatible with fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) main line
coatings.

PIPE FITTINGS &
SPOOL FABRICATION
Raymond International provides each client with high quality, competitively
priced, prefabricated piping.
The GRP slip lining system consists of one or more pieces of multi
sectional glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) panels manufactured
from a selection of thermosetting resins and reinforced with glass
fibre chopped strand mat. A glass surfacing tissue liner layer
provides additional corrosion protection and abrasion resistance.
The main structure of the liner and make-up of the liner wall
incorporates a corrosion barrier on the inside surface followed by
resin.
The liner is inverted through the pipeline using water hydraulics this
pushes the lining through the pipe and enables the liner to negotiate
varying shapes and bends the water pressure inflates the liner to
create a close fit lining against the host pipe. When completely inverted
the resin is cured by heating the inversion water or by ambient cure.

INDUSTRIAL
SERVICES
PLANT CONSTRUCTION
Raymond International Group offers its clients a diverse range of industrial, civil, mechanical and
electromechanical services for the petrochemical, oil, gas, water desalination, power generation, marine and
mining industries. We have provided multi-discipline engineering services to industrial clients for more than 40
years. Our company fosters an innovative problem-solving environment that presents fast and flexible responses
to client needs. Our organization can offer complete engineering services from the project feasibility phase,
through to detailed design and construction management. Raymond’s team of highly specialized engineers are
supported full time by qualified field technicians whose expertise lies in the maintenance and modernization of
industrial facilities.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
New projects are a key way to create value and benefits for an organization. In today’s business environment
projects are executed under tighter budgets, shorter timelines and rapidly changing technology. These ventures
require specialized knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to achieve their goals & objectives. Raymond
specializes in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring/controlling and closing large and complex projects. Each
project management plan is carefully tailored to meet specific requirements and constraints using internationally
recognized framework.
Raymond requires that each Project Manager working for our group maintains membership to The Project
Management Institute in order to keep up to date with the latest industry standards and practices.
MECHANICAL AND
ELECTROMECHANICAL SERVICES
Plant maintenance and upgrades help to enhance each facility’s
operating efficiency and productivity. We have undertaken the
offsites and utilities installation of mechanical equipment and
piping systems for numerous plants and facilities throughout the
MENA region.
• Replacement of crown plate supports, cold reheat pipes, drain pots and
attemperaters
• Redesign of boiler rear water wall support structure attachments from tube to membrane in the windbox
• Installation of static and rotating equipment, conveyor bridges and package boilers
• Installation of underground and aboveground GRP, RTR, FRP, & CPVC pipes & fittings for various in plant utility
services of sizes 1” to 150” diameter
• Installation of ferrous and non-ferrous piping and its components including erection, fabrication welding and NDT
• Customized critical lifting plans and heavy scaffolding assembly in preparation for mechanical works

CIVIL & CONCRETING
With civil works accounting for anywhere up to 20% of a plant’s overall construction cost,
the structural design and choice of materials used play a vital role in delivering a project
on time and within budget. Raymond gets involved in the planning and designing phases
early on to provide cost effective solutions which fall in line with customer expectations.
• Design and installation of new concrete structures for seawater intake and outtake
APPLICATION
Raymond can apply the following corrosion prevention systems to
lengthen the life expectancy of different plant components:
• Cathodic protection
• Cold wrapping
• Concrete repairs
SHUTDOWN / TURNAROUND
Raymond International specializes in Shutdown / Turnaround inspection and repair work catering to many of the top Petrochemical
Manufacturing Facilities and Oil Refining Companies throughout the region. We are able to internally inspect pipeline coatings
and implement custom solutions, to ensure a maximized operational performance life. Our inspections and repairs often save the
owner having to replace entire pipelines prematurely, a very costly process. Time frames are often constricted, but our team of
experts work closely with clients to produce a schedule that fulfils their requirements.
