About the Saturn B
Implementation
The ASD and HSD options are available in all Saturn B terminals, and
can be opened for operation by a code supplied by any of Nera ASA
agents. See "Renter/Owner Level: Optional Functions".
Protection
Two password protected user levels are provided in addition to USER
and OPERATOR level:
• RENTER, and
• OWNER
A common default password (1 2 3 4 5 6) facilitates the activation of
Enhanced Functions for new users (see "Password").
Warning! An individual OWNER password must be entered to protect
the equipment against unauthorized use. The password must be
stored in a safe place.
Up to three different operation rights can be assigned with selecta-
ble access level to each Enhanced Function:
• SETUP OPERATION – allows such as selection of ports.
Default access level: OWNER.
• UPDATE OPERATION – such as entering/deletion of data.
Default access level: OWNER.
• VIEW OPERATION – such as display readout and printout.
Default access level: OPERATOR
When activating a function, the access level required to operate each
right can be seen in the display when pressing MORE/HELP.
See example below.

General
The Saturn B terminals provide the following access levels in addition
to USER (1) level and OPERATOR (2) level:
• RENTER (3), and
• OWNER (4)
The RENTER and OWNER levels are protected by passwords.
The default password for both levels is 1 2 3 4 5 6.
Password protection can be used to restrict operative functions to
different parameter levels, e.g.:
• level 4 (OWNER) allowed to change setup.
• level 3 (RENTER) allowed to read data.
• level 2 (OPERATOR) given no access to reading or setup.
• level 1 (USER) has standard minimum operational functions.
These restrictions can be applied according to function, e.g.:
the RENTER level can be allowed to configure the ASD function, but
restricted to reading only in the access code function.
An individual password may be assigned to each level using the "SET
PASSWORD" function no.13, see "Password".

Introduction
Features
The Asynchronous Data (ASD) system allows data transmission
between the Saturn B terminal and:
• a remote computer connected to a standard modem that can be
routed via the telephone network to an Inmarsat Land Earth Sta-
tion (LES) offering the Inmarsat-B ASD services.
• a remote Satellite terminal supporting the Inmarsat-B ASD data
service.

Operating Modes
The Saturn B ASD function may operate in three modes:
• Command Mode
Saturn B ASD responds to AT commands. No remote communica-
tion occurs.
• Online Command Mode
A data call is taking place. An escape sequence has been initiated, after
which Saturn B ASD will respond to AT commands during the call.
• Online Data Mode
Saturn B ASD is connected up. Anything arriving from the PC is
interpreted as data and sent to the remote end and vice versa.
AT A ç

answer sequence of the incoming call. Used when not
configured for auto answer.

Introduction
Features
The High Speed Data (HSD) system provides a 56/64 Kbps full
duplex link with automatic dial up connection.
It provides a link both from the Saturn B terminal to any subscriber
connected to the ISDN network, and from any ISDN subscriber who
can be routed to an Inmarsat Land Earth Station (LES) offering the
Inmarsat-B HSD services.
With a Saturn B terminal with V.25bis interface and a network router,
a high performance access-on-demand network may be established,
allowing as follows (see figure 3.1):
• a user equipment network to be connected to the home office
network or to Internet.
• a single user equipment to be connected to the home office net-
work or to Internet.

V.25bis Dialing Cont’d
The number to be dialed is taken from a dialer map within the bridge/
router configuration file which is configured during installation of the
bridge/router.
The advantage of V.25bis dialing over DTR dialing is that multiple
LANs can be automatically dialed instead of just one pre-programmed
number as in DTR.
The Saturn B with V.25bis interface and a bridge/router allows a
remote office LAN (MES side) to communicate with a LAN at the fixed
side. See figure 3.1.
The user equipment LAN is connected to the home office LAN via
Saturn B, the Inmarsat satellite system and the ISDN network.
A typical user LAN consists a number of PCs connected to the
ethernet port of a router. The router enables the PCs in the user
equipment LAN to communicate with computers in the home office
LAN.

4. The call is cleared when the Data Terminal Ready signal goes
OFF, or a Data Set Ready OFF signal is received on the "TO
SATURN DTE PORT".
Incoming calls
An incoming call of either the ASD or HSD type is routed to the "TO
SATURN DTE PORT" by the Saturn B terminal:
1. The Data Set Ready signal indicates the arrival of an incoming
signal.
2. Circuit 112 routes the call to the appropriate port:
- ON sends the signal ot the "HSD USER PORT"
- OFF sends the signal ot the "ASD USER PORT"

Mobile-to-fixed Clearing
The User Equipment clears a call by turning 108 OFF. Saturn B then
turns OFF 106 and 109 in response.
Saturn B then transmits the remaining buffered data, and initiates a
call clearing towards LES. LES then turns 107 OFF as Clear Confir-
mation to the Saturn B User Equipment.

No clear Indication
A User Equipment may expect to have 107 OFF only as response to
108 OFF.The port can be configured with the Clear Signals option set
to ‘NO_CLEAR_IND’ to prevent 107 to be turned OFF as a Saturn B
Clear Indication signal. This type clear indication will not be signalled
to the User Equipment across the interface.
Clear Confirmation signals will be generated automatically within
Saturn B, and the User Equipment will be regarded as ‘UNCON-
TROLLED NOT READY’ until 108 is turned OFF.

Appendix A – V.25bis Dialing
Mobile-to-Fixed Call – Signalling Sequence
The call is initiated by the V.25bis dialing command (CRN).
The number to be dialed is taken from a dialer map resident in the
bridge/router.
Before the dialing command can be sent the bridge/router causes the
MCU to enter V.25bis command mode by turning ON circuit 108/2.
