A STUDY ON ONLINE TICKET

RESERVATION IN INDIAN

RAILWAY

Submitted to Submitted by

Dr. U Faisal Hariprasad E

1. Introduction

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of this source is to describe the railway reservation

system which provides the train timing details, reservation, billing
and cancellation on various types of reservation namely,

●Confirm Reservation for confirm Seat.

●Reservation against Cancellation.
●Waiting list Reservation.
●Online Reservation.

The origin of most software systems is in the need of a client, who

either wants to automate the existing manual system or desires a
new software system. The software system is itself created by the
developer. Finally, the end user will use the completed system.
Thus, there are three major parties interested in a new system: the
client, the user, and the developer. A few factors that direct us to
develop a new system are given below -:
1. Faster System
2. Accuracy
3. Reliability
4. Informative
5. Reservations and cancellations from anywhere to any place

1.2 Scope

“Railways Reservation System” is an attempt to simulate the basic

concepts of an online Reservation system. The system enables to
perform the following functions:
• SEARCH FOR TRAIN

• BOOKING OF A SELECTED FLIGHT

• PAYMENT

• CANCELLATION

1.3 Overview

The remaining sections of this document provide a general

description, including characteristics of the users of this project,
the product's hardware, and the functional and data requirements
of the product. General description of the project is discussed in
section 2 of this document. Section 3 gives the functional
requirements, data requirements and constraints and assumptions
made while designing of it. It also gives the user viewpoint of
product. Section 3 also gives the specific requirements of the
product. Section 3 also discusses the external interface
requirements and gives detailed description of functional
requirements. Section 4 is for supporting information.

1.4 Objective of the Study

 To compare the effectiveness of online ticket reservation
pre and post Covid.
 To understand the factors that influenced the people to shift
to the online reservation.
 To analyse the problems faced by people during the online
reservation.
Methodology and Design

1. Influence of age and gender in

reservation system
H0 – There is no influence of age and gender in
reservation system

H1 – Age and gender have influence on

reservation system

Observed Values

Calculated value=2.42
Level of significance=0.05
Degree of freedom=(4-1)*(2-1)=3
The table value=3.182
The Calculated value is less than the
table value
Therefore, we accept H0
There is no significant influence between
age and gender in the reservation
system.

2. Influence of age and class of trains

reservation system
H0: Age and class are not
dependent.
H1: Age and class are dependent.

Here,

Calculated value=46.75

Level of significance=0.05

Degree of freedom=(9-1)*(4-1)=24

The table value=2.064

The calculated value is greater than the table value

Therefore, we reject H0

Hence , age and train class are dependent.
