What is a covalent bond?

A covalent bond, also called a molecular bond, is a chemical bond that involves the sharing of
electron pairs between atoms. These electron pairs are known as shared pairs or bonding pairs, and
the stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms, when they share electrons, is
known as covalent bonding.

What is an ionic bond?

Ionic bonding is a type of chemical bonding that involves the electrostatic attraction between
oppositely charged ions, and is the primary interaction occurring in ionic compounds.

What is a metallic bond?

Metallic bonding is a type of chemical bonding that rises from the electrostatic attractive force
between conduction electrons and positively charged metal ions. It may be described as the sharing
of free electrons among a structure of positively charged ions.

What is a compound?

A chemical compound is a chemical substance composed of many identical molecules composed of

atoms from more than one element held together by chemical bonds

What is a mixture?

In chemistry, a mixture is a material made up of two or more different substances which are
physically combined. A mixture is the physical combination of two or more substances in which the
identities are retained and are mixed in the form of solutions, suspensions and colloids.

The definition of atomic structure is the positively charged nucleus and the negatively charged
electrons circling around it, within an atom. An example of atomic structure is what gives energy to
atoms and then to molecules. Atoms consist of a nucleus containing protons and neutrons,
surrounded by electrons in shells. The number of subatomic particles in an atom can be calculated
from the atom's atomic number and mass number.
