And to all the people who are not mentioned yet helped us in the
completion of our OJT, from the bottom of our hearts we thank God for your
existence, thank you for contributing to our personal growth.

v
I. Introduction

On-the-Job Training (OJT) is one method for students to apply the

theories and applications they have learned in school. It also allows them to gain
relevant knowledge and skills by performing in a real-world work environment.
OJT allows students to experience the actual methodologies of a specific job by
using real tools, equipment, and documents. In effect, the workplace serves as a
training ground for student trainees to learn more about their chosen field and put
what they've learned in college into practice. However, during the COVID-19
pandemic, exposure risks and government restrictions limited the conduct of OJT
in government agencies and companies. As a result, some on-the-job training
was done at home in the form of virtual on-the-job training, which required
students to attend online for virtual training. This training will prepare students for
real-world scenarios in the workplace, as well as reinforce and improve their
classroom skills and knowledge.

OJT is essential not only for teaching students about their chosen
profession but also for demonstrating the realities of their work. Students are
introduced to the coursework. Furthermore, even inexperienced workers can
contribute.

On-the-Job Training demands perseverance and dedication. OJT should

be taken seriously by trainees as it can be a valuable tool in preparing for the
next chapter of one's professional life. It may serve as a source of
recommendation when they eventually make the transition from students to
experienced professionals.

COMPANY PROFILE
History
The Alalay Sa Kaunlaran Inc. (ASKI) was born in October 1986 in the year of the
EDSA People Power Revolution where unemployment and poverty are
widespread because of political issues and the transition of leadership. Seeing
the urgent needs and the difficult situation of the communities at that time, a
group of Christian business leaders in Nueva Ecija decided to establish an
organization that will help the people. The organization was officially registered
with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on March 23, 1987, as a
non-stock, non-profit organization committed to the promotion and development
of micro and small-to-medium enterprises and the delivery of social services. It
formally launched operations on July 1, 1987. From its starting fund of P460,000
provided by the Maranatha Trust of Australia, the group reached out to small
entrepreneurs, the street players, to the movers of the micro economy that had
no access to bigger funding institutions. The organization slowly set up its
Strategic Business Units to provide more services to its clients. It is now known
as the ASKI Group of Companies, Inc. These institutions were part of innovations
to address the socio-economic problems in the regions of our operation: Alalay
sa Kaunlaran Microfinance Social Development, Inc., ASKI Mutual Benefit
Association Inc., ASKI Foundation Inc., ASKI Multipurpose Cooperative, ASKI
Skills, and Knowledge Institute, Inc., ASKI Global Limited, synergies Inc., ASKI
School of Knowledge, ASKI Employees Credit Cooperative, LOLC-ASKI Finance
Inc., and Royal Bon Voyage Travel and Tours. After more than 30 years in the
development industry, ASKI Group of Companies, Inc. has achieved great
milestones and surpassed steep challenges in its journey. From a small office in
Cabanatuan City, ASKI blossomed and continuously grows to serve not only
those in the rural communities but overseas Filipino workers as well. Currently,
ASKI has a total portfolio of Php1.7 billion with 98 branches in regions 1, 2, and 3
and serving more than 100,000 clients and insuring more than 800,000 members
and their families The organization has also created its name on the local and
international front in bringing about change to the lives of many and innovating its

2
strategies to better cater the needs of the people. It has developed trust and
entered partnerships with different institutions inclined to the mission of ASKI.
Similarly, ASKI has strengthened its alliance with its fellow institutions in the
industry across the country to work together to better address the needs of poor
families. In 2015, ASKI welcomed Republic Act 10693, or the “Microfinance
NGOs Act” which strengthens non-government organizations engaged in
microfinance operations. The law benefits and protects microfinance institutions
and more importantly its delivery of services to micro-entrepreneurs and
unbankable poor families.

OUR VISION
A global development organization committed to holistic transformation.

OUR MISSION
To promote socio-economic development through client-focused financial
and non-financial services anchored on Christian principles.

Narrative Accomplishment
Rosalinda V. Costales

Week 1 March 17 – 18, 2022

My first day of training was March 17, 2022, and I was very excited to go
to work and gain new experience. I applied for my on-the-job training at the ASKI
Sta. Ignacia Branch. They only accept two trainees per branch, and I am grateful
that I was one of the two chosen. When I arrived at the office at 7:30 a.m., my co-
trainee was already there, waiting for the office to open. After a few moments, the
branch manager and bookkeeper arrived. Even before I applied for the
internship, they were approachable and kind. We went in and cleaned when the
office was open. Before they start working, they have a one-hour devotion period.
Following the devotion, we introduced ourselves to the ASKI staff, who in turn
introduced themselves to us. They asked us to do a talent segment, so my co-
trainee and I decided to sing and she would play the guitar. On our first day, we
had a hilarious and unforgettable experience. Following our brief talent portion,
our OJT supervisor and branch bookkeeper asked us to watch an ASKI
orientation video. Our OJT supervisor, Ms. Joan Joy Esplana, assigned us the
task of organizing and sorting journal vouchers and checking vouchers by the
fund and series number. Because of my OJT supervisor's guidance, I was
delighted and more motivated to complete my assigned tasks. I completed the
task assigned by our supervisor on two consecutive days of my week 1. I began
my OJT on Thursday and will only be working two days this week. My first week
of training was a success. I enjoyed my working environment as well as my co-
trainee, who is also my classmate.

Week 2 March 21 – 24, 2022
During my second week of training, I was assigned to separate journal
vouchers and check vouchers per month, arrange them according to fund and
series number, and file them in the appropriate folders. I was also tasked with
affixing a paid stamp to check vouchers and promissory notes. The next day, I

34
continued to sort and arrange files. On the third day of this week, I was tasked
with categorizing official receipts by signatory staff and filing them in a folder with
labels. I was unable to attend the office on the last day of this week because I
needed to edit our thesis. I thought it was a tiring week because we were just
filing and stamping all week, but it motivated me to work harder and be more
mature in dealing with unusual situations. Nonetheless, the experience aided me,
and the staff, in particular, are pleased with our completed work because we
were able to complete the assigned task ahead of schedule.

Week 3 March 28 – April 01, 2022

In my third week of training at ASKI, my tasks were to separate client's
folders by Microfinance Loan Officer, organize cash and check vouchers by the
fund, stamp check vouchers, detach promissory notes from client's folder that
need to be notarized, file client's documents in their folder, organize official
receipts per signatory staff, file official receipts, inventory of office supplies,
organize and file loan utilization check, photocopy of receipts, organize and file
loan utilization check. It was a tiring but productive week because I completed all
of the tasks assigned to me. I had a great time doing the tasks assigned to me
for this week of training.

Week 4 April 4 – 08, 2022

During the fourth week of my training, I organized and sorted old files by
year, placing them in a sack and labeling them; organizing official receipts by
signatory staff and filing them; writing client information in the application and
insurance forms; organizing old official receipts by series number; paying the
branch electric bill at TARELCO, and depositing the collection to the depository
bank. This week, I can say that my task-related skills and knowledge have
improved, as well as my personality and approach to the workplace.

Week 5 April 11 – 13, 2022

Due to the holiday, I only worked three days this week. I was assigned

35
new tasks that I had not done during my previous weeks of training, such as daily
collection and encoding of payments, encoding late collection after the cut-off
time for deposited collection, the printing of teller proof sheet, input quantity of
undeposited cash collection, saved undeposited collection to be deposited on the
next day of the transaction, recording to all saved data to the ds log book, and
recording transactions on the logbook. During the same week, I was also tasked
with organizing and sorting files, collecting deposits for the depository bank, and
labeling filings. Even though I only attended for three days, I can confidently
conclude that I was productive during those days because I completed all of the
tasks assigned to me.

Week 6 April 18 – 22, 2022

This was a very busy week, and the tasks I completed this week were an
extension of the assigned tasks from the previous week. We continued to
arrange files, separate old official receipts, staple application forms, write client
information, record client information on teller's logbook, deposit collection to
depository bank, buy office supplies at the market, encode loan utilization
checks, assist clients in the release process, and deposit collection to depository
bank. This week was also our branch bookkeeper's last week because she was
transferred to another branch. During a branch turnover this week, we met the
new branch bookkeeper. ASKI's CEO also paid a surprise visit to the branch this
week. Everyone was surprised because none of us expected him to show up at
the office. At the same time, I am grateful to have met the man who is the driving
force behind ASKI's success. In my sixth week of training, a lot happened.
Unexpected events, such as the transfer of ma'am Joy, make me sad. I am
grateful for the knowledge, experiences, and lessons she shared with me during
our one-month collaborative efforts.

Week 7 April 25 – 29, 2022

This training week is a new setup for me because I have to adjust to the
newly transferred staff with whom I will be working for the remaining period of my

36
training days. Another adjustment to make is because we need to get to know
them and get along. I never had difficulty going along with them because they are
all friendly and approachable. They were all very busy this week because it was
the end of the month and the last week of releases. This week, I was tasked with
organizing files and unused official receipts, filing documents, encoding
payments, writing client information on the application and insurance forms,
assisting clients with the release process, and deposit collection to the depository
bank. They were under pressure because of the branch situation for the past
three months. Despite the staff's hectic schedule, Ma'am Shelly made time for us
to talk about her work and learn how to use her COMPACC. This training week
has allowed us to learn more.

Week 8 May 02 – 05, 2022
I only came into the office three days this week due to our thesis study
and a holiday. The task assigned to me was to arrange official receipts per
signatory staff, file official receipts, arrange proof sheets and files, arrange files,
deposit collection to the depository bank, encode client's insurance information,
file client's documents to the new folder, hand over client's folder to MLO, and
call clients.

Week 9 May 10 – 13, 2022
In the ninth week of training, I also only attended three days. It is due to
the election and our thesis defense. My task was to organize and segregate LUC
per microfinance loan officer, put paid stamp on check voucher, record in
gasoline logbook, organize files, deposit collection to the depository bank, and
write client information in the loan application and insurance form. This training
helped me to be more driven and motivated to do my daily tasks in the days that
followed.

Week 10 May 16 – 20, 2022
In my tenth week as an ASKI trainee, I have already learned a lot about

37
the tasks that I have completed in previous weeks and have continued to do up
until this week. This week's tasks included the filing of the journal and check
voucher, putting a paid stamp in the check voucher, removing promissory note
from the client's folder that is to be notarized, deposit collection to the depository
bank, writing the client's information in the loan application and insurance form,
lecturing about ASKI and the cheque process, and taking an exam. As my
training progressed, I learned to be more efficient and to be on the watchful for
anything that was asked of me.

Week 11 May 23 – 27, 2022
This was the final week of my training at ASKI. I was assigned to write on
the gasoline logbook, print aging receivables, file JV and CV, file documents,
arranged and sort LUC per microfinance loan officer, encode LUC, write client's
information in the loan application and insurance form, assist the client in
releasing, call clients, and deposit to the depository bank.
All of the knowledge and experiences I've gained will be extremely
beneficial to me in my future career. I was relieved to have completed my 400-
hour training. When I leave my workplace for more than two months, I will miss
all of the employees and my co-trainee who became close to me for a short time.
Being an intern at ASKI was a wonderful experience.

Week 1 March 17 – 18, 2022
My first day of training was March 17, 2022, and I couldn't wait to get
started. I applied for a job at the ASKI Sta. Branch, Ignacia. They only accept two
trainees per branch, and I am grateful to have been one of them. I am already
waiting for my officemates to open the branch when I arrived at 7:00 a.m. The
branch manager and bookkeeper arrived after a few moments. They were
friendly and approachable even before I applied for the internship. When the
office was open, we went in and cleaned it. They have a one-hour devotion
period before beginning work. We introduced ourselves to the ASKI staff after the
devotion, and they in turn introduced themselves to us. When they asked us to
perform a talent segment, my co-trainee and I decided to sing while she played
the guitar. We had a hilarious and unforgettable experience on our first day.
Following our brief talent segment, our OJT supervisor and branch bookkeeper
requested that we watch an ASKI orientation video. Ms. Joan Joy Esplana, our
OJT supervisor, assigned us the task of organizing and sorting journal vouchers
and checking vouchers by the fund and series number. I was pleased and able to
work on my assigned tasks as a result of my OJT supervisor's guidance. On two
consecutive days of week 1, I completed the task assigned by our supervisor. I
started my on-the-job training on Thursday and will only be working two days this
week. My first training week was a success. I liked my workplace and my co-
trainee, who was also a classmate.

Week 2 March 21 – 24, 2022
Throughout my second week of training, I had been instructed to separate
journal vouchers and check vouchers per month, organize them by fund and
series number, and file them in the appropriate shared folder. In addition, I was
tasked with stamping check vouchers and promissory notes with a paid stamp. I
kept sorting and arranging files the next day. I was tasked on the third day of this

39
week with categorizing official receipts by signatory staff and filing them in a
labeled folder. I was unable to come into the office on Friday because I needed
to edit our thesis. I considered this was a long week because we were only filing
and stamping, but it inspired me to work harder and be more mature in dealing
with unusual situations. Even so, the experience bolstered me, and the staff, in
particular, are pleased with our finished work because we finished the given
tasks earlier than planned.

Week 3 March 28 – April 01, 2022

My tasks during my third week of training at ASKI included organizing
client's folders by Microfinance Loan Officer, organizing cash and check
vouchers by the fund, stamping check vouchers, detaching promissory notes
from client's folders that needed to be notarized, filing client's documents in their
folder, organizing official receipts per signatory staff, filing official receipts,
inventory of office supplies, organizing and filing loan utilization check, photocopy
of receipts, organizing and filing lo I completed all of the tasks assigned to me,
making it a tiring but productive week. I had a great time completing the tasks
assigned to me for this training week.

Week 4 April 4 – 08, 2022

I organized and sorted old files by year, placing them in a sack and
labeling them; organizing official receipts by signatory staff and filing them;
writing client information in the application and insurance forms; organizing old
official receipts by series number; paying the branch electric bill at TARELCO,
and depositing the collection to the depository bank during the fourth week of my
training. In the week, I could say that my undertaking knowledge and expertise,
as well as my public persona and attitude to the place of work, have improved.

Week 5 April 11 – 13, 2022

I only worked three days this week due to the holiday. I had been
instructed additional tasks which I had not performed during my previous weeks

40
of training, such as daily payment collection and encoding, late collection after
the cut-off time for deposited collection, the printing of teller proof sheet, input
quantity of undeposited cash collection, saved undeposited collection to be
deposited on the next day of the transaction, recording to all saved data to the ds
log book, and recording transactions on the logbook. I was also tasked with
organizing and sorting files, collecting deposits for the depository bank, and
labeling filings during the same week.

Week 6 April 18 – 22, 2022

It was a very busy period, as well as the tasks I completed this week have
been extensions of the work allocated to me the week before. We started
organizing files, totally separating old official receipts, and staple application
forms, writing client information, recording client information on the teller's
logbook, depositing to the depository bank, buying office supplies at the market,
encoding loan utilization checks, assisting clients in the release process, and
deposit to the depository bank. Our branch bookkeeper's last week was also this
week because she was transferred to another branch. We met the new branch
bookkeeper this week during a branch turnover. This week, ASKI's CEO also
paid a surprise visit to the branch. Everyone was taken aback because none of
us expected him to show up at work. At the same time, I am grateful to have met
the man responsible for ASKI's success. A lot happened during my sixth week of
training. Unexpected events, such as Ma'am Joy's transfer, make me sad. I am
grateful for the knowledge, experiences, and lessons she shared with me
throughout our one-month collaboration.

Week 7 April 25 – 29, 2022

The latter training week has been different for me since I have to adjust to
the newly transferred personnel with whom I will be working for the rest of my
training days. Some other changes to make because we need to get to know
them and how to get along with them. I always felt comfortable with them
because they are all friendly and approachable. Because it was the end of the

41
month and the last week of releases, they were all extremely busy this week.
This week, I was responsible for filing documents, encoding payments, writing
client information on the application and insurance forms, assisting clients with
the release process, and deposit collection to the depository bank. For the past
three months, they had been under pressure due to the branch situation. Despite
the hectic schedule of the staff, Ma'am Shelly made time for us to discuss her
work to understand about using her COMPACC. This training week has allowed
us to learn more.

Week 8 May 02 – 05, 2022

Due to our thesis research and a holiday, I was only in the office three
days this week. The task assigned to me was to file official receipts, arrange
proof sheets and files, arrange files, deposit collection to the depository bank,
encode the client's insurance information, file client's documents to a new folder,
and hand over the client's folder to MLO, and call clients.

Week 9 May 10 – 13, 2022

I also missed two days of training during the ninth week. It is due to the
election and the defense of our thesis. My responsibility was to organize and
segregate LUC per microfinance loan officer, put paid stamp on check voucher,
record in gasoline logbook, organize files, deposit collection to the depository
bank, and write client information in the loan application and insurance form. In
the days that followed, this training helped me to be more driven and motivated
to complete my daily tasks.

Week 10 May 16 – 20, 2022

Throughout my tenth week as an ASKI intern, I've now gained a lot of
knowledge about the tasks I've finished in prior weeks and also have proceeded
to do that until this week. This week's activities included filing journal and check
vouchers, putting paid stamps in check vouchers, removing promissory notes
from the client's notarized folder, deposit collection to the depository bank, writing

42
client information in the loan application and insurance form, lecturing about
ASKI and the cheque process, and taking an exam. Since my training made
progress, I managed to learn to become more effective and to be aware of any
requests made of me.

Week 11 May 23 – 27, 2022

It was the last week of my ASKI training. I have been given the task of
writing in the gasoline logbook, printing aging receivables, filing JV and CV, filing
documents, arranging and sorting LUC per microfinance loan officer, encoding
LUC, writing client's information in the loan application and insurance form,
assisting the client in releasing, calling clients, and depositing to the depository
bank. Most of the experiences I've gained will be extremely useful in my future
career.

43
Learnings
Rosalinda V. Costales
The ASKI- Sta. Ignacia Branch helps me gain new experiences. I was
exposed to real-world work at ASKI and became familiar with employee-prepared
documents. Aside from that, I learned to be more sociable and to adapt to my
working environment and colleagues.
During my more than two-month training at ASKI, I learned a lot of new
things, not only about my course but also about the experiences, learning, and
life lessons that were imparted to me by the staff. While I was a trainee at ASKI-
Sta. Ignacia Branch, I was taught to be a hard worker, multi-task, and prepare
myself for unusual situations. I want to complete the task assigned to me on time,
but it is also essential that I do it correctly. Everything I learned during my training
days will be useful in my future career.
I have realized after my internship that on-the-job training is more than just
a requirement to be fulfilled; it is also an opportunity to demonstrate my skills,
knowledge, and capabilities in the workplace. Furthermore, it is an opportunity to
feel like a professional right away. I will never forget my training company and I
will consider them as one of my stepping stones toward success. Everyone in the
office is kind and approachable, but they all want things done correctly and
clearly.
I will be forever grateful to them for providing me with opportunities that
have taught me everything I know about my chosen field. I thanked them for the
lessons learned and memories made during our more than two months as
trainees at their company. My skills and knowledge clearly show that I am ready
to face any challenge that may arise.

44
Learnings
Junerene A. Pontanilla

All through my two and a half month training at ASKI, I gained a lot of

useful things, not only for my course it's also about the experiences, learning,
and life lessons that the staff shared with me. During my time as a trainee at
ASKI- Sta. Ignacia Branch, I was taught to be a hard worker, to multitask, and to
be prepared for unexpected situations. I want to finish the task assigned to me on
time, but I also want to do it correctly. Everything I learned during my training
days will come in handy later in my career.
After my internship, I realized that on-the-job training is much more than a
necessity; it is also an opportunity to prove my skills, knowledge, and
competence in the place of work. Moreover, it is a chance to immediately feel like
such a professional. I would never fail to notice my training company, and they
will be one of my starting points to success. Everybody in the office is pleasant
and sociable, but they all expect things to be done clear as possible.
They will be remembered for providing me with opportunities that taught
me everything I know about my chosen field. I thanked them for the lessons we
had learned and the happy times we had made throughout our two months as
interns at their company.

45
Conclusion

As a graduating student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business

Administration with a major in Financial Management, the course requires
everyone to complete On-the-Job Training in order to gain firsthand experience.
Professionally, it will offer an edge in their line of work and may help them find an
idea for future research that will benefit the Philippine business industry, as well
as the potential of someone being exposed to many advantages from various
locations, as they will be accommodating presenters outside of the educational
establishment. On-the-Job Training is essential for students because it broadens
their knowledge while also allowing them to explore their strengths and
weaknesses in the workplace. OJT greatly helps in chosen professional
development by giving students with real-world work experiences that allow them
to develop professional skills and competencies. After completing the required
number of hours of on-the-job training, the trainee has received an intensive
learning experience, ethical working values, improved communication skills,
professional self-development, and confident self-competence. The trainee not
only gained practical skills but also had the opportunity to meet new people and
learn how to interact with them ethically.
In addition, the trainee was capable of contributing to the company's need
to have assistance. That said though, based on these observations, having an
internship or OJT program is critical to students' preparation for the "real world"
of work. This internship, as a mode of learning, will go a long way toward making
the trainee a better worker if it becomes part of her academic learning as well as
a necessary part of her career development. The goal is to learn how to manage
individual work in accordance with a group performance, so it is carried out by
the entire class.
