NARRATIVE REPORT
The International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is a global event, which takes place every
14th of March. The proclamation of March 14 as the International Day of Mathematics also
known as Pi Day from the mathematical constant π which can be rounded to 3.14 was adopted
in the 205th season of the UNESCO’s Executive Council. The day was then adopted in the 40 th
season of the General Conference of UNESCO in 2009.
Deped Memorandum 28 series of 2020 entitled International Day of Mathematics calls
for the support of the event. Relative to the issuance of the memo, the Division of Dinagat
Islands encourage all schools the observance of the International Day of Mathematics. This
year’s theme: “Mathematics for Everyone”, to connect mathematics to all sort of subjects, fields
and ideas.
The International Day of Mathematics aims to contribute to the achievement of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), specifically to improve understandings among the
general public of the indispensable role of Mathematics in Education, raise awareness of the
role of Math in the modern society, science and disaster management, increase access to the
information about Mathematics, increase international networking and collaborations and
contribute to sustainable development.
The opening program was then held last March 14, 2023 at the EIM Building at 1:00
pm, where it started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by a prayer,
both played through multi-media presentation. Also, an opening remark was then given by our
school head, Sir Enriquito T. Fideles, Jr. Shortly after, a statement of purpose was delivered by
the School Mathematics Coordinator and Over-All Chairman, Sir Junrey L. Curias. Then, the
host, Ma’am Marjorie A. Mondragon instructed all the participants to proceed immediately to
their contest venue. The host also emphasized to the non-participating learners to enjoy the half-
day event by roaming around and witnessing all the six events participated by their classmates.
The different competition was held simultaneously due to time constraints and it was
participated by all the sections from Grade 7 to Grade 12. These were the events, venues,
facilitators and judges: 1. Rubik’s Cube Competition at Grade 12 Diamond classroom with
Ma’am Emma B. Fijo as facilitator; 2. Poster Making Contest at Grade 9 Curie classroom with
