► Computer Network is a group of computers
connected with each other through wires or wireless
to share computer resources.
► The aim of the computer network is the sharing of
resources among various devices.

 Terms Used in Computer Network
► Node: Node is any active electronic device that is attached to a network and
that can receive, generate, process or forward information
over a communication channel. Example Modem, hub, bridge or
switch etc. are nodes.
► Work Stations: Workstations offer higher performance than personal
computers and they are better at handling multiple tasks
simultaneously. Workstation computers often run Unix or Linux as their
OS
 Terms Used in Computer Network
► Clients: Clients are the network computers on which user run
applications. They are less powerful, less processing speed and
less storage capacity than server. Usually they are dependent to
the server and request to the server to get information.
► Server: A server is a computer system or software application
that offers resources or services to other computers or
applications across a network, also referred to as clients. On the
Internet, the term "server" commonly refers to the computer system
that receives requests for a web files and sends those files to the client.
 Advantages of Computer Network
► A network connected computer can easily share info with other computer.
► Network on a computer can share peripheral devices like printer, hard disk
etc.
► It can share software between member workstations; therefore it saves
money for not buying multiple copies of system or programs.
► Network helps to keep info reliable and up-to-date.
► Networking also provides the function of backup .
► In network we can use latest technology like block chain and may more.

 Network Topologies
The physical or logical layout with
geometrical pattern/arrangement of
interconnection of computer in a
network is called topology.
Advantages of Bus Topology :

► It works very efficiently well when there is a small

network. The length of cable required is less than a
star topology. It is easy to connect or remove
devices in this network without affecting any other
device. Very cost-effective as compared to other
network topology i.e. mesh and star.
