ACTIVITY FOR LESSON 2

1. How does the nature and effect of the Sacrament of Confirmation made the
confirmed person the defender of the Church?
The second Sacrament is Confirmation. Our baptismal commitment is reaffirmed
through the laying on of hands and anointing with Chrism. We are empowered to live
more genuinely and responsibly as disciples of Jesus and members of the Church
devoted to accomplishing Jesus' mission today as a result of the Holy Spirit's gifts such
as wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, courage or fortitude, piety, and fear of
the Lord. The nature and effect of the Sacrament of Confirmation made the confirmed
person the defender of the Church by providing the confirmed persons with a particular
outpouring of the Holy Spirit wherein the Holy Spirit increases their ability to exercise
their Catholic faith in all aspects of their lives and to witness Christ in all situations
during Confirmation. Through Confirmation, confirmed persons become defender of the
Church or soldiers of Christ. They are bond to fight under the standard of Christ and
bond to encounter obstacles and perils. They fight for the cause of Christ in which they
give testimony to Christ by their militant actions. Therefore, confirmed persons are
commissioned officially and are charged sacramentally with the duty of extending their
activities to other people.
