What is modern dance?


• A term to describe contemporary dance, is a style of dancing
where dancers are free to express their feelings through
movements without adhering to any rules in dance
particularly that of ballet. It is actually a rebellion against the
confining nature of classical ballet. (Horwitz, in Reynolds,
1979)
• Modern dance portrays the actual human situation as it is. It
make use of the floor as part of the movements. It also
includes several areas of dance movement, namely,
technique, improvisation, and choreography (Minton, 1984)
