FUTURE PERFECT/CONTINUOUS

MTRA. DARCY STOCK

FUTURE CONTINUOUS

¡ Future continuous is used just as any other continuous tense: to express actions which are in progress. The only
difference is that with future continuous we express future actions which will be happening.
¡ What will you be doing later tonight? I will be catching up on my homework.
¡ Darcy will be grading your writing exams this week.
¡ We will be sleeping early tonight, so don’t call us after 8pm.
¡ Future continuous is formed in the following way:
¡ Subject + will + be + -ing verb + complement
Subject + verb to be + going to + be + -ing
My English students are going to be taking an exam later this week.
I am going to be catching up on my homework.
FUTURE PERFECT

¡ We use future perfect to express actions that will happen in the future and when they will be finished.
¡ I will have studied a doctorate by the time I am 40.
¡ I will have won 5 “catrina” pageants in 5 years.
¡ Luisa will have finished her project in time to present it.
¡ Fer will have worked at her company for 2 months.
¡ What will you have accomplished by the time you are 40?
¡ Subject + will + have +past participle + complement (may include time)
¡ Note: have does not change for third person to has
FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS
¡ Future perfect continuous expresses actions that you “will have been doing” or “will have been in progress” for a
specific amount of time. This means it is an action that is in progress for a specific amount of time. What is
finished here is the “time”, not the action. Here it is also important to know that there is EMPHASIS on the fact
the action is still happening.
¡ I will have been teaching for 5 years when I turn 32.
¡ How long will María have been studying English when she finishes at the Language school? She will have been studying
English for 5 years.
¡ Subject + will + have + been + -ing verb + complement (may include time)
have been
¡ Subject + will + not + be + -ing verb
¡ *Note that there are TWO verbs typically in this structure. One is the future and the other is present simple.

You will have been taking classes with me for 5 months when you finish level 700.
GOVERNMENT AND SOCIETY

¡ What is your definition of government? Society

¡ Government is “the political system by which a country or community is administered and regulated.” (Encyclopedia
Britannica)
¡ Society is “the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community.” (Oxford English Dictionary)
¡ Do you agree with these definitions?

¡ How does your political system work? How is it different from others you know?
¡ Is it our job as a society to help shape it?
¡ Does government help to make things better or worse? Society? Why or why not?
FUTURE: GOVERNMENT AND SOCIETY

¡ What do you think will have happened to government by the year 2050? What things will have changed? What
things will have stayed the same?
¡ In your opinion, what problems most urgently need attention?
¡ What will society have been doing until these problems are solved?
