1. Installation and Tools
1.0 Preliminary remarks

The installation of DDS-CAD, as well as for the additional tools,

requires administrator rights. In addition, please close all programs
before starting the installation and disable your virus scanner.

For DDS-CAD the installation types “local” and “network” are avail-
able. The desired installation type can be selected in the installation
menu. The setup DVD also contains several tools (additional applica-
tions).

4 | Installation and tools

1.1 Local installation

Use this method if you would like to install DDS-CAD locally on a sin-
gle workstation or want to install the software on multiple worksta-
tions in a network.

It is irrelevant whether:

• The workstation has a local hard disk or is connected via a terminal

server
• The data is managed locally or on a network
• The available license is a local or network dongle

Installation and tools | 5

1.2 Network installation

The network installation can be used to save time. Use this option if
you intend to install DDS-CAD on multiple workstations in a network
at the same time.

6 | Installation and tools

1.3 Tools

The installation DVD contains several additional tools that can be in-
stalled:

Installing the dongle server is only required in case of a new installa-

tion and if licensing is done through a network dongle. Run the setup
on the computer that will be used as a dongle server.

Do not install the dongle server if:

• If you have a local USB license for your workstation

• A DDS-CAD network dongle is already in use (e.g. for existing instal-
lations)

To create PDF files in DDS-CAD you can install the PDF printer
“PDFCreator”.
The tool “Install License Update” is used by DDS support during re-
mote admin when update issues have occurred.

2. Local installation - new installation

Please note:
When installing DDS-CAD for the first time the dongle should
not be inserted before starting the installation procedure. After
completing the installation a restart of the computer is required,
afterwards you can insert the dongle.

2.1 Starting the installation procedure

After you have inserted the DVD, the installation process will start au-
tomatically. If the installation does not start, open Windows Explorer
and run the “Install.exe” from the DVD.

Select a market and language for DDS-CAD and confirm with “OK”:

Select “Start Installation”:

8 | Local installation – new installation

The Installation Wizard starts. Please follow the recommendation and
close all windows and other applications. Also disable your virus scan-
ner for the duration of the installation of DDS-CAD. To install DDS-
CAD click “Next”:

Enter your user name and company name and indicate for which us-
ers DDS-CAD should be installed:

Local installation – new installation | 9

In the following dialog, the locations for installing the program, user
folder and project folder are proposed. You have the option to change
these locations in this dialog.

The locations relate to the following questions:

• In which folder should the software be installed?
• Where should user data be stored (i.e. company logo, own products,
symbols, settings, etc)?
• In which folder should projects be stored (e.g. network or local loca-
tion)?
• Since it concerns a new DDS-CAD installation, no data can be copi-
ed from an existing User folder

If your projects or user data should be stored on the network, the net-
work folder must be connected to a network drive on your computer.
DDS-CAD does not support UNC paths (server share e.g. \\Server-
name\folder\) in all functions. Therefore, we recommend not using
them.
Enter the correct locations or use the default folders and press “Next”.

Please note:
If you use Microsoft Windows Vista or newer, you may not use or
create the folders for user files and projects in the DDS program
path (C:\Programfiles\DDS\...). Microsoft Vista and newer versi-
ons of Windows do not provide direct write access to the Program
folders.

10 | Local installation – new installation

Select the setup type “Complete” for a full installation of DDS-CAD:

When you select the setup type “Custom” you can select whether the
modules “Crystal Reports” and “Polysun Inside” have to be installed.
When deselecting the module “Crystal Report” DDS-CAD cannot cre-
ate reports (e.g. output of calculation results and part lists). The mod-
ule “Polysun Inside” is used for calculating the yield of PV systems:

Select which shortcuts you would like to have installed and press
“Next”:

The setup is now ready to install DDS-CAD. Select “Install” to start the
installation procedure. To change or check the settings you have se-
lected, use “Back”.

12 | Local installation – new installation

After successfully completing the DDS-CAD installation you can close
the dialog by pressing “Finish” and restart your computer:

After the restart you can insert the USB dongle in the computer. The
USB dongle will be automatically recognized; afterwards you can

2.2 Parallel installation to DDS-CAD 9

If you want to continue working on projects that have been created in

DDS-CAD 9 in version 10, you need to specify a new location for the
project and user folder.

Please note:
You cannot refer to the folder locations that are used by DDS-CAD 9.

The user data from DDS-CAD 9 can automatically be copied to the

new folder locations for DDS-CAD 10.

To do so, activate the check box “Copy to DDS-CAD 10”:

14 | Local installation – new installation

2.3 No parallel installation to DDS-CAD 9

In case you would like use separated user data exclusively for DDS-
CAD 10, you can specify a new location for your user folder. The project
folder location can be similar to the one used for DDS-CAD 9.

Please note:
Project that are opened in DDS-CAD 10, cannot be opened any-
more in an older version of DDS-CAD.
