Movie Review

The Patriot

The patriot is a movie about the revolutionary war and how one farmer stands up when he’s

called to the fight. He didn’t want to fight in the war but chose to rise to action when his son was

murdered. Through out the movie the farmer who is played by Mel Gibson fights adversity and

overcomes highs and lows throughout the fight. There are many other leaders throughout this movie as

well. The three leaders I chose to write about are leaders who portrayed a positive influence and a

negative influence whether they were the good or bad guy.

Jason Isaacs played a British colonel He was a leader, an unethical leader though. He led the

British army and was portrayed as a evil character which he was. He was a leader based out of fear.

People followed not because they believed in him but because he scared them and demanded they do

as he says.

Tceky Karyo is a French actor who played Jean Villeneuve a French general sent to America to

help fight the revolutionary war. This wasn’t his war or either of his country’s but he was a leader by

action not by words or fear. He showed the men to fight for what’s right and stand by your friends and

support them.
 The last leader I chose was Mell Gibson who played a farmer named Gabriel. Gabriel was a man

who was happy being a farmer and didn’t want any business in a war. He was content with being a father

and was raising a family. He chose to fight when his son was murdered and carried that with him his

entire fight. When another one of his sons was murdered alongside him, he made a personal mission to

succeed to victory for America. He had to deal with a lot of adversity along the way nothing really

seemed to go his way and even after his oldest son died, he rallied the troops and encouraged them as

well. He put his personal problems behind him to ensure others were motivated to succeed.
