CHAPTER II

Methodology
This chapter presented the methodology including the research design,

population and sample and the procedure.

Research Design

The research study will apply the phenomenological design as a research

design to gather data. The main objective of the study is to gather information that

explains how individuals experience a phenomenon and how they feel about it.

A phenomenological design will be employed in the research study which

means that there is no single objective reality; instead, everyone experiences things

differently. It is used to describe the lived experiences of the respondents (Holloway,

2023). The outcome is described from the point of view of the participants. However,

the researcher is still able to derive a set of findings that can be used to identify themes

surrounding the phenomena under study (Lissie, 2021). It will seek to describe the

essence of a phenomenon by investigating it from the perspective of those who have

experienced it.

The phenomenological design is the most appropriate for the research study

that aims to determine the lived experiences of business owners on managing a coffee

shop business in Amadeo, Cavite.

Population and Sample

In the research study, the participants will be the business owners of the

different coffee shops in Amadeo, Cavite. The researchers will choose ten (10) coffee

shop owners in Amadeo, Cavite.

The participants mentioned were found to be relevant to the research study as

they are the ones experienced in managing a coffee shop and can provide the

necessary information to achieve the study’s objective.

These participants will be selected through purposive sampling technique

wherein the respondents will be determined based on the needed information of the

researchers. With that, the respondents will be only limited to those who can provide

in-depth and detailed information about the phenomenon under investigation which is

about the experiences of business owners on managing a coffee shop business in

Amadeo, Cavite.

Instrumentation

The research questionnaire for the interview of the study consists of fifteen (15)

items that are divided into three (3) parts. The interview questionnaires are semi-

structured open-ended questions so that the interviewer can add follow-up questions

and allow the interviewer and interviewee’s flow of thoughts. This will be intended to

use to achieve the study’s objective. For the validation of the questionnaire, its English

translation will be checked by an English teacher and its Filipino translation will also

be checked by a Filipino teacher. Furthermore, the reliability and usability of the

research interview questionnaires will also be pilot tested by the selected ten (10)

coffee shop owners in Amadeo, Cavite.

Data Gathering Procedure

In conducting the study, the researchers will look and identify the various coffee

shops in Amadeo, Cavite. Then the researchers will formulate and prepare the

questionnaire that will be given to the participants during the interview. A letter of

approval or consent from a professional in the field of Accountancy, Business and

Management validating that the questionnaire form being provided to the respondents

will be solely for educational and research purposes will be made. After the validation,

the researchers will now determine and select ten (10) coffee shop owners in Amadeo,

Cavite. The researchers will ask for the consent of the respondents then will proceed

to the gathering of the necessary information. The interview will take at least 10 – 20

minutes. Lastly, the collected information from the interview will be analyzed and

interpreted using the Phenomenological Research Design and will be presented using

descriptive context in paragraph form.
