Reasons for Identification:


Pollen grain germinate in the nutrient medium
Exine is visible and variously sculptured
Exine is the tough and protective outer layer.

➢ The exine has weak areas, apertures or openings, where


sporopollenin is absent. They are called:
• Germ pore - When circular in outline
• Germ furrow. - When elongated in
outline

Intine
• It is the thin delicate cellulose layer lying internal to the
exine.
• The intine grows into the pollen tube.
• Pollen tube visible
• Tube cell enlarges and comes out of the pollen grain to
form pollen tube
• Tube nucleus descends to the tip of the pollen tube.
• Generative nucleus also passes in the pollen tube.
• Generative nucleus soon divides to form two male
gametes.
