(1) Water at 20 C flows by gravity from a reservoir A to reservoirs B & C through sch.40
steel piping (as shown in Fig.(1)). Calculate the rate of flow into each reservoir,
when the valves are fully opende.
(2) A system of pipes conveying water at 20 C is connected in parallel and series as
shown in Fig.(2). The gate valve is installed to control the rate of flow in the system.
it has resistance coefficient of K=99.664e -0.064n where n is the percentage valve
opening. The head at A is 100 m, at E is 40 m and at F is 60 m. If the valve is
adjusted to give equal discharge rates at E and F, calculate the head at point C, the
total volume rate of flow through the system and the percentage valve opening. All
pipes are PVC, 10 bar rating. Neglect all other minor losses.There is no elevation
differences.
