Personal CM Philosophy
I agree wholeheartedly with Glasser’s approach to meeting
students' needs in the classroom.
Cultivating relationships with students in the classroom
that benefit the learning process will result in better
achievements due to the trust built with teachers and
students.
Creating a plan for the classroom will create a structured
learning space that allows students to focus on the
content. Allowing the students to take responsibility and
ownership for their learning is the key to achieving
student’s choice theory.
Having the students take part in creating norms / things to
follow for the classroom helps them understand what
standard they are held to by themselves and their peers.

I would say these are the most important in the classroom

due to the environment they create for students. Students
are most affected by their environments, whether good or
bad.
I do not agree with completely regarding
Glasser’s management style is the
Quality School grading scale. I do not
think it is beneficial for the students to
not have grades that reflect their
attitude and behavior in the classroom if
it is disruptive.
This is not fair to the other students
putting in hard work and effort to earn
the grade they are given.
This shows the students that are not
willing to work that you will still be
rewarded or enabled to continue with
your decision to not care about your
progress.

Entering a classroom for the first time is like a first impression, made within 15
seconds of the encounter. The atmosphere of the room must say “learning happens
here.” I plan to organize my room so that students are focused on learning and not a
mess. I plan to strategize the placement of my room so that the seating
arrangements reflect my teaching skills and lesson development. Placing the rows
of students to face the middle of the classroom will allow them to still be able to
work in groups when needed but not get distracted by table groups solely. This will
also allow students to be focused on the middle and front of the room to follow
along with the content I will be teaching in the middle. I also believe that learning
should be done in the way that most fits the students. I will take one to two weeks
during the beginning of each semester to get to know my students and lay out the
groundwork. This will help me guide the students but also in a manner that is
shaped around them and their needs. Building a foundation and relationship with
each student will allow me to work to obtain their trust and give them room to grow.
Listening to the students is one of the most powerful things you could do as a teacher and role
model in their life. Creating that known structure and routine in their life will take some weight off of
their ability to think about the worries in their worlds. Having a structured plan of action for each day
will show the students that I care about what they are doing in class and how I have thought
through how I want to teach them through the lens of their interests. I am proactive in the
classroom and eliminate opportunities for misbehavior or disruptions before they occur due to my
formulation of no wasted time. Having the students know the established routine will allow the
content to move smoothly along while also eliminating the various questions in the morning of
“what are we doing?” This then allows me to prepare for the content needing to be uncovered by
the students for the day. Establishing structure and being confident in it will result in more
opportunities for growth and learning than disruptions.
I choose to be in a classroom everyday because I love the students. I want to be the teacher that
teaches students not just the content.
